The Slitter Operator position is responsible for operating a machine to slit continuous lengths of laminated paper and film products into specified widths that meet customer specifications.
Responsibilities:- Adjusts blades according to width specified on slitting work order and sets up run speeds i.e., adjust guides, loading or unloading of material as required through machine.
- Installs spacers to adjust spacing to specified tolerances and cores in arbors.
- Operates machine and observes flow of material through machine to detect defects, irregular cutting and/or winding of material i.e., control panel (use buttons stop, start, and regulate speed of machine, adjust side tension, down pressure, and break tension).
- Follows slitting job order instruction regarding packing, splice specifications, core diameter, rewind directions, splicing, length and width of the cuts.
- Threads the web through slitter and verifies dimensions of cut to specifications, using tape measure.
- Observes slitting and rewinding operation and examines clean slit cuts.
- Reports any necessary maintenance of the machine, and or unsafe working conditions to management.
- Complies with safety regulations and maintains orderly work areas.
- Cross-trains in Packing of Materials
- Tow Motor/Forklift Certification Training as required.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Education and/or Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Tow Motor/Forklift experience preferred
- Previous manufacturing experience preferred
- Previous machine operator experience in slitting or similar highly desirable
- Ability to read a tape measure in millimeters and inches, blue prints, and drawings
- Must be able to follow written and oral instruction
- Must be able to work overtime including short-notice requests
- Possess basic math skills

The ability to recognize and evaluate technical issues and limitations is required. The ability to define and manage expectations is critical. The ability to make sound decisions and actions is required.
Ability to access risk associated with product compliance and regulation and awareness of when to communicate changes to risk.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms sit, climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 85 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
