The Sr. Thermal Systems Engineer develops and manages the thermal management simulations for refrigeration, heat pump, battery cooling and mobile refrigeration applications. The position will perform modeling cooling circuits, heating circuits, and control strategies using simulation tools such as GT suite, MATLAB/Simulink, 1D-Lookup tables, 2D-Lookup tables and PID controllers. As part of the team, this position will be collaborating with other engineers, manufacturing, lab technicians, and service and requires the ability to apply engineering fundamentals to model and design thermal systems.
Job Responsibilities:
- Identify new and innovative ideas to support customer thermal system requirements.
- Develop and manage thermal specifications and requirements (at subsystem and component levels).
- Support a regional customer base in North America for advanced refrigerant and thermal system application projects. Including all current and future refrigerants (R1234yf, R454C, R455A, R404A, R449A, R290, etc.) and heat pump applications.
- Demonstrate the ability to act as the technical lead to provide timely issue resolution that positively impacts project cost, quality, timing and customer satisfaction.
- Work cross functionally with design and development engineers throughout the engineering organization to ensure the relevant subsystems are designed with appropriate requirements to achieve specific product functions.
- Assist with product component level requirements, help drive implementation and testing and release.
- Research and develop estimation and physics based thermal models for thermal management of compressors, heat pumps, and auto HVAC to deliver the best customer-experience.
- Provide technical guidance to component teams to ensure products integrate into thermal system design in the application.
- Participate in technical information exchanges.
- Ability to leverage numerical system models to define and validate requirements, evaluate system performance, and perform trade off studies.
- Ability to develop strategies to find outliers based on product analysis and apply these in a manufacturing environment.
- All other duties as assigned.
- BS in Engineering or related STEM discipline required
- Master's Degree is a plus.
- 5+ years of related applicable experience.
- High level proficiency in refrigerant thermodynamics and heat transfer principles.
- Experience with refrigerant and coolant sub-system application and validation testing.
- 1D simulation/modeling experience using GT suite or equivalent tools.
- Highly analytical; able to resolve both simple and complex issues in a manner that supports business objectives. Promotes process efficiency/effectiveness on a consistent basis in a highly team-oriented environment.
- Working knowledge of CAD modeling using NX or CATIA.
- Ability to assess testing results at a system or sub-system level and provide root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Ability to guide and interpret CAE results and system design.
- Understanding or commercial HVAC and battery cooling and vehicle cooling systems, subsystems, and components.
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment understanding high sense or urgency and commitment to meeting deadlines.
- Ability to multitask and manage several projects simultaneously.
- Willing to advise and learn from others during the problem solving process.

Travel: minimal, 10%, Primarily domestically
Flexibility in work schedule to meet and achieve various deadlines.
