Summary - basic function of the role
The primary function of this position is to manage the Gonzales, LA location in a safe and secure manner; which includes shop employee(s), assets, administrative activities, and general shop operations. The primary tasks of the location include supplying equipment from stock for shipping to rental customers, receipt/refurbishment/repair of returned rental equipment and overall management of rental fleet at site. The Shop Supervisor will ensure that available inventory levels are maintained to support the greater Gonzales area.
Major responsibilities of direct report(s) include assessing equipment to determine if rental product or customer owned equipment needs only basic refurbishment or if it needs to be repaired. The condition of the equipment will determine level of disassembly, troubleshooting, assembly, testing, and packaging of the tools received. The products' design and function are usually standardized, and methods applied are generally prescribed or standardized.
Shift: Monday - Friday, evenings and weekends may be required
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensures rental facility's staff are trained and established processes are followed ensuring proper fit, alignment, calibration of tools and equipment, making adjustments and/or repairs required to meet tolerances and operating requirements.
- Lead and maintain a process-focused safety culture, which drives continuous improvement to include safety improvements, cost and cycle-time reductions and improved product availability/quality while maintaining a safe and productive working environment for all employees.
- Reviews reports and resolves operational, repair, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum time and cost preventing operational delays.
- Establish and monitor overall repair center performance for safety, cost, delivery and quality standards.
- Control and minimize labor overtime, premium freight and repair expenses. Maintain existing plant facilities and equipment; replace or make adjustments to plant facilities and equipment when necessary.
- Provides for and delivers a centralized site-wide communication process and ensures that all visual communication materials are kept up to date; proactively communicates issues or concerns to off-site department and business leaders.
- Responsible for facilities maintenance and ensuring a safe and reliable work environment.
- Fulfil and satisfy HTUS Rental Ops Equipment rental orders as needed and maintain equipment fleet availability levels.
- Test, calibrate, and certify the accuracy of equipment per work instructions and calibration dates.
- Repair tools & equipment, which includes disassemble, inspect, troubleshoot, replace parts, reassemble tool, inspect, and test for proper operation. Knowledge required for this function includes basic understanding of gear trains, mechanical systems, and electrical circuits. Interpretation of drawings, work instructions, and other specifications are required.
- Use of precision measuring/testing instruments, gauging devices, and performing various quality inspection type procedures to include dimensional verification and non-destructive testing.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment repairs and document all repairs while maintaining a high level of organization.
- Manage repair part stock levels within area required as well as initiating purchase requisitions as needed for customer approved repair parts.
- Pass equipment refurbishment and repair training and demonstrate proficiency in meeting daily output goals.
- Process rental equipment and part component shipping and receiving transactions in Oracle (Company ERP System).
- Drive continuous improvement, 5s, and other housekeeping duties for the workshop, yard and storage areas.
- Carry out driving duties in accordance with the Company's requirements.
- Participates in the On-call rotation that may include occasional evenings and weekends.
- If required, will possibly need to pass fork lift & other driving functions as specified to job sit.
- Transport equipment between local facilities/customer sites; this includes delivering and picking up rental equipment in a company truck.
Skills and Competencies
- Computer skills include knowledge of Microsoft Windows software suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.) and company business ERP system.
- Read and interpret documents such as operating procedural manuals, maintenance instructions, and safety rules and MSDS.
- Ability to enter routine maintenance reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups, customers, or employees of organization.
- Calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Resolve problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Must be able to manage workshop personnel and accurately account for all equipment.
- Must have great organizational skills.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or general education degree (GED)
- 3+ years' experience with Rental Equipment / Warehouse / Workshop Supervision
- Certification in the areas of Assembly, Calibration-Conformance testing and Order Management is preferred
- Forklift certification is preferred
- TWIC card preferred; eligibility to obtain a TWIC card is required
- Must have a valid driver's license and be able to pass site specific background/drug tests.
Physical Demands
Employee may have to lift documents/work materials up to 30 pounds in weight. Employee may have to lift tools up to 100 pounds in weight. Employee will have to be able to walk/climb to a variety of primary work locations, including traveling by air/auto to remote sites. This can include occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like. Employee may move themselves in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces. Employee will need to move about to accomplish tasks or move from one worksite to another. Employee will need to operate machinery and/or power tools, motor vehicles, and heavy equipment. Employee will need to listen, understand, and speak with team members in person, telephonically, and electronically at all levels within a diverse workforce and with supported organizations. Employee will need to assess the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned. Employee can work in front of a personal computer and telephone for long periods of time. Will have repetitive motions that include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
Work Environment
Primary work environment is temperature-controlled office setting, a typical warehouse environment, or a work trailer located at a customer site. Work environment may also be visiting different customers where following appropriate safety protocols at the location would be required. While in the warehouse, work trailer, or visiting customers, employee may be exposed to high/low temperatures, outdoor elements (such as precipitation and wind), high levels of noise, hazardous conditions, poor ventilation, small and/or enclosed spaces, or adverse environmental conditions.
