Senior Transmission Analyst
Location: Houston, TX

A leading company in the energy sector is seeking a Senior Transmission Analyst to perform electrical load flow studies and provide strategic insights into the operation and optimization of the electric transmission system. This role is vital in supporting the company’s hedging, trading, and market analytics initiatives across various ISO/RTO regions.
Key Responsibilities
- Transmission Studies & Market Simulations:
- Conduct power flow analyses and market modeling to identify system capabilities, risks, and opportunities.
- Support the company’s generation assets and commercial positions.
- Hedging & Trading Support:
- Assist with CRRs/FTRs/TCCs and other market transactions to optimize the company’s portfolio.
- Market Analysis:
- Produce short- to mid-term market reports and forecasts.
- Support the continuous improvement of the company’s proprietary LMP market modeling and analytics platform.
- Industry Engagement:
- Participate in RTO/ISO meetings and monitor changes in the transmission grid.
- Gather intelligence on market and regulatory developments affecting the company’s interests.
- Strategic Support:
- Provide expertise for commercial development, strategic origination, and other analytical efforts.
Qualifications
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (with a focus on power systems), Mathematics, Applied Statistics, Computer Science, or related fields.
- Advanced degree in technical fields is highly desirable.
- Experience:
- 3+ years of experience in transmission systems planning/operation, including working with automated load flow tools.
- Knowledge of transmission modeling and nodal price modeling software (e.g., PSLF, PSSE, PROMOD, UPLAN, Dayzer).
- Familiarity with energy market structures, ISO markets, and commodity dynamics.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in analytical tools like Excel, SQL, Visual Basic, Python, R, SAS, C++, or Java/.NET.
- Strong understanding of FTR, CRR, TCC structures, and power plant operations.
- Expertise in transmission grid topology, congestion management, and related procedures.
- Attributes:
- Demonstrated ability to manage and improve complex processes efficiently.
- Strong communication and analytical skills.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary Range: $100,000–$165,000 per year, plus bonus and long-term incentives (LTI).
- Benefits: Comprehensive benefits package provided.
