The Senior Structural Designer will have extensive knowledge in specialized function, and a strong understanding of the general and detailed aspects of the job and their practical application to complex problems and situations ordinarily encountered. The Senior Structural Designer will develop processes that require innovation and ingenuity and interact with internal and external personnel on matters of significant importance. This individual will also independently perform moderately difficult to difficult design assignments which require the application of advanced designing techniques in accordance with company and industry standards and codes. Most assignments are performed independently with only minimal guidance.
Requirements- Normally requires a BS in Architecture or an Engineering discipline and typically 6 - 11 years related experience (or equivalent working knowledge/experience)
- Experience utilizing various computer software packages such as Revit, AutoCAD and other automated engineering and design equipment/ software.
- Must demonstrate a sound understanding of design concepts with minimal engineering input and a proficiency in utilizing computer-assisted techniques for difficult design applications.
- Revit (3D modeling software)
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at times.
- Must be able to walk job sites which would include the ability to climb stairs and navigate construction sites.
- Up 20% travel by both air and ground.

- Solid awareness of basic architectural/engineering principles, material properties, and a familiarity with construction, installation, and maintenance procedures.
- Provides conceptual input to projects during the planning stages and helps to define the projects’ scope of work.
- Prepares detail and layout drawings and sketches of unusual, complex, or original designs requiring the application of theoretical and practical architectural/engineering knowledge.
- Reviews manufacturers’ or fabricators’ prints for conformance with contract specifications. Provides lower-level design/drafting personnel with design sketches for preparation of finished engineering drawings, general layouts, and guidance in refining technical requirements.
- Regularly interfaces with other departments, clients, vendors, and project engineers in order to support project production and to ensure that conflicts and interferences with other disciplines are avoided.
- Performs other related tasks in support of project engineer that are non-routine and complex in nature, such as writing procedures and specifications, compiling, computing, and analyzing various engineering design and/or test data, estimating, etc.
- Performs certain administrative tasks, such as establishing drawing schedules, assigning tasks to lower-level design/drafting personnel, etc. Is responsible for ensuring that project completion schedules are met.
- Proven proficiency using and supporting Revit within design projects
- Develop Design Criteria (code, functionality) for mid-size to large projects
- Develop conceptual layouts for various structural systems
- Develop foundation system based on geotechnical investigation report
- Perform calculations, including the use of Tekla Structural Designer (TSD) and other programs
- Perform lateral analysis/design of structural systems
- Integrate Revit and Tekla Structural Designer (TSD) programs
- Process shop drawing submittals, RFIs, etc.
- Lead structural design effort on mid-size to large projects
- Collaborate with other discipline leads
- Mentor less experienced structural engineers
- Working understanding of the following Codes:
- American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC)
- American Concrete Institute (ACI 318)
- International Building Code (IBC)
- ASCE 7
- Factory Mutual (FM)
- Software packages
- Design and Review: Revit, ACC/BIM360, Navisworks, Revizto, Bluebeam Revu
- Project and Productivity: Microsoft (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams), Procore
- Calculation Tools: Tekla Structural Designer (TSD) (preferred), Enercalc, TEDDS, STAAD
