SUMMARY
We currently have a unique opportunity for an experienced Development Staff Accountant, who will focus on real estate development primarily in the low-income housing tax credit industry.
The Development Staff Accountant plays a crucial role in the financial management and reporting of development projects within the organization. This position is responsible for assisting in various accounting functions, financial analysis, and reporting related to development activities. The Development Staff Accountant collaborates closely with project managers, finance teams, and other departments to ensure accurate financial data and support decision-making processes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date general ledger entries for development projects.
- Reconcile accounts and resolve any discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Prepare financial reports related to development projects, including budget vs. actual analysis, variance explanations.
- Collaborate with project managers to review project budgets, ensuring alignment with overall financial objectives.
- Track development project costs and expenses, ensuring adherence to approved budgets.
- Review project-related invoices and expenses, ensuring proper coding and documentation.
- Assist in the preparation of audit schedules and support auditors during financial audits.
- Ensure compliance with accounting principles, company policies, and relevant regulations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance, operations, and project management, to ensure effective communication and coordination throughout the development process.
- Prepare draws in accordance with project budgets and lender requirements.
- Coordinate with project managers and other stakeholders to gather necessary documentation for draw submissions.
- Interact with lenders to ensure timely and accurate processing of draws and resolve any issues or discrepancies.
EDUCATION (OR EQUIVALENT EXPERIENCE)
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration, or equivalent business experience.
- 2+ years’ experience in construction/real estate development accounting.
- Preference will be given to candidates that have experience in the low-income housing tax credit segment of the industry.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to candidates with the Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designations.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Proficiency and aptitude for general accounting software programs, including Microsoft Office and Yardi.
- Self-motivated, decisive, with the ability to adapt to change and competing demands.
- Experience working both independently and, in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Demonstrate decisiveness in resolving business problems, making decisions, and identifying priorities.
- Adept at conducting research into project-related issues and products.
- Time management skills, especially familiarity with calendar management and goal setting.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
