ABOUT THE POSITION
Senior Site Civil Design Engineer – Land Development | Hybrid | Wethersfield, CT
VHB’s growing CT team is seeking a Site Civil Design Engineer to support our Land Development practice.
Responsibilities
- Work independently with a team of professionals in developing site civil engineering plans, reports and specifications for a multitude of land development projects
- Lead and assist with civil engineering for retail, residential, institutional, renewable energy and industrial site design including grading and drainage design, utility design, and site layout
- Preparation and/or reviewing of design criteria, drawings and specifications
- Preparation of schematic design, design development, and construction contract documentation
- Lead the preparation of permitting, design and construction documents
- Project task financial performance, and management of small or medium projects
- Attending meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to establish their needs and discuss design/permitting issues
- Technical and design report writing
Skills and Abilities
- Excellent verbal, written, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills
- Team oriented with ability to perform multiple tasks independently in a timely manner and collaborate effectively and positively with other emerging professionals and managers
- Ability to work in a fast-paced office, virtual, and field environment, in rural or urban environments
- Proven strong work-ethic and self-motivated to produce high quality outcomes
- Highly organized, and detail oriented, with ability think creatively and formulate solutions in team environment
- Knowledge of local and state regulations governing site design
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field of study required
- Master’s degree a plus (may substitute for 1 year of experience)
- 8-11 years of professional site/civil design engineering experience required
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, TR-55 and Rational Method for drainage design (i.e., HydroCAD, and StormCAD) required
- PE (Professional Engineer) license required
- Solid understanding of the typical land entitlement process in CT including permitting at the local and state level preferred
