A growing real estate firm in the Baltimore area seeks an experienced and qualified Senior Property Accountant
Responsibilities
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable processes.
- Conduct financial analysis and provide insights to management.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
- Coordinate with property managers and asset managers on financial matters.
- Prepare budgets and forecasts for property portfolios.
- Monitor cash flow and manage banking relationships.
- Reconcile bank statements and general ledger accounts.
- Assist with internal and external audits.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.
- Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures.
- Provide training and support to junior accounting staff.
- Analyze and report on financial performance metrics.
- Manage property tax payments and assessments.
- Ensure timely and accurate rent collection and tenant billing.
- Prepare and file tax returns and other regulatory filings.
- Collaborate with other departments on financial planning and analysis.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency.
- Assist with special projects and ad-hoc reporting as needed.
- Stay current with industry trends and best practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in property accounting or real estate finance.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and real estate accounting principles.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with Yardi, MRI, or similar property management software.
- Knowledge of property tax regulations and compliance.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Experience with budgeting and financial forecasting.
- Ability to analyze financial data and provide actionable insights.
- Knowledge of internal controls and audit processes.
- Experience with financial statement preparation and analysis.
- Ability to train and mentor junior accounting staff.
- Strong understanding of cash flow management.
