YOUR ROLE
As a member of the Project Management Office, you’ll play a crucial role in managing change initiatives that support our ability to deliver world class customer service and capabilities to our policyholders—now and in the future. You will support projects having strong ties to our operations functions and supporting IT infrastructure and will call on a passion and proficiency in both.
What you will be doing
- Lead complex, strategic, high-impact initiatives that are in most cases, multi-year, multi-million dollar programs composed of multiple projects with significant IT builds and process reengineering
- Assist a specific functional area with prioritizing initiatives that align with business strategy and manage to a defined program spend budget. As needed, participate in functional meetings or lead functional specific prioritization meetings to facilitate this objective.
- Assist a specific functional area with building project business cases and funding requests. This includes validating cost and benefit assumptions with stakeholders, resource managers, and process owners.
- Assist with supplier engagement as needed to refine business cases, execution of Request for Proposals (RFPs), and enablement of implementation.
- High level of interface with executives, often influencing the executives and their leadership teams to common alignment with program goals and output
- Manage and coach a small team of Project Managers supporting a given functional area, if required
- Manage projects using widely accepted project methodologies; consistently apply project management tools and methods to manage project scope, schedule, cost, risk, quality, communication, resources and suppliers.
- Develop and integrate plans for large cross-functional programs requiring multiple work-streams and sub-plans; assist in developing appropriate program structures for applicable projects
What you bring
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 7 years project management experience
- Demonstrated success managing large, cross functional projects (>$250K, > 6 months) that have significant IT build components and process re-engineering
- Highly proficient and scoping and structuring ambiguous work, effectively mitigating major risks and moving challenging projects forward by finding the team clarity
- Demonstrated ability to develop strategic relationships and lead customer focused projects across organizational boundaries
- Demonstrated thought leadership in support of the development of program strategies and execution roadmaps
- Demonstrated ability to coach less experienced project managers in project management
- Excellent planning, organizational and execution skills
- Strong communication -- oral, written, interpersonal and presentation skills
- Results oriented, ability to meet and exceed objectives and handle multiple deadlines and priorities
- Strong analytical and business problem solving skills
- Proficient in various MS Office (e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams)
Nice to have
- Prior experience with large IT related projects and business transformations
- PMI (Project Management Institute) CAPM or PMP certification
- Experience using MS Project and Visio (or similar tools) at intermediate to advance level
- Familiarity with Life, LTC and Annuity insurance products
- Previous experience in finance, risk management, operations or actuarial
