Position Title: Senior Project Engineer
Location: St. Charles, MO
Position Summary: The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for managing large projects from conceptual phase, through 3D CAD modeling, fabrication drawings, and shop support. This role requires effective project planning using Gantt charts and strong ability self-prioritize to duties to meet tight project deadlines.
Working under the general direction of the Director of Engineering, the Senior Project Engineer will also be responsible for developing and executing mid to short-term plans resulting in process improvements and standardizations. Additionally, this role will serve as a technical reference for sales and estimating, and assist with departmental training and mentorship.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide design leadership while working on multiple large projects.
- Develop and implement project plans, schedules, and budgets, ensuring that multiple projects are simultaneously completed on time and within budget constraints.
- Coordinate among cross-functional teams including product management, design, and quality assurance aligning engineering efforts with overall business objectives.
- Generate 3D models, specifications and instructions necessary to effectively communicate project requirements to others.
- Schedule, coordinate, and lead peer design reviews for safety and liability consideration.
- Communicate concerns to sales and production management in a prompt manner.
- Interface with sales and estimating to understand the project scope.
- Interface with client to understand project expectations.
- Track scope changes, as needed.
- Track project performance to budget and schedule.
- Communicate with shop floor daily for design concerns and work schedule.
- Source and quote products for the project. Interface with the purchasing department to provide materials per the project schedule.
- Produce some mechanical and structural calculations in accordance with codes and standards.
- Plan and execute process and CAD standardizations.
- Leverage and implement efficiency automation/configuration-based tools such as DriveWorks.
Required Skills:
- BS in Mechanical Engineering and 10+ years of experience in Manufacturing.
- PMP, PgMP, CAPM, and/or comparable project management certifications.
- Proficient in 3D solid modeling and basic AutoCAD.
- Strong general machine design skills.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with knowledge/experience working with common hand tools and machine shop tools.
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically, solve problems, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire and motivate team members.
- Ability to learn multiple disciplines. Projects may include steel structures, aluminum structures, hydraulics, visual elements, electrical and controls, mobile structures, etc.
Preferred Skills:
- SolidWorks (Modules of: Sheet Metal, Structural Weldments, Drawings, General Assembly, and PDM).
- Skills in electric/electric control systems, hydraulics, structural, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), PLC Programming, cabinet building, plumbing, HVAC and lighting.
- Advanced Engineering Degree or MBA.
- Experience with Wrike, MS project or other project planning software.
- Previous experience leading or mentoring engineering teams.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit for long periods of time.
- Required to stand, walk, use hands.
- Must be able to position self to move, bend, lift up to 75 lbs.
- Ascends/descends on ladders and move around/within trailers.
- Required use of fingers and hands to operate a computer.
- Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to travel and manage projects at remote locations as needed is required; (~3%)
