BMSS Advisors & CPAs is looking for an experienced Senior Project Accountant with a background in government contract accounting who values cultivating relationships to join our consulting team. BMSS was established in Birmingham in 1991 and has grown to become a top 100 advisory and CPA firm in the U.S. We have four locations in Alabama (Hoover, Downtown Birmingham, Gadsden, Huntsville) as well as one in Mississippi (Ridgeland). We would prefer this candidate to be located near the Huntsville office.

What you'll be doing:

The Project Accountant role is responsible for managing all aspects of contract billing, proposal pricing, incurred cost submissions, and related financial activities. Applicants should have a bachelor's or master's degree, 6+ years of relevant experience within the government contract industry, and must be proficient with Deltek Costpoint, Excel, and Business Intelligence (BI) reporting tools.

Skills needed to be successful:

Required:

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
• 6-8+ years of experience in project accounting, specifically in contract accounting and billing within a government contracting environment.
• Strong experience with Deltek Costpoint is required.
• Proficiency in using Costpoint Business Intelligence tools for reporting and analysis.
• Advanced Excel skills, including formulas, data analysis, and spreadsheet automation.
• Experience with preparing incurred cost submissions and understanding of DCAA audit requirements.
• Solid background in proposal pricing and understanding of cost structures in government contracts.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects with strict deadlines.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

• Ability to identify and implement process improvements for more efficient financial operations.

Responsibilities:

• Costpoint System Management: Utilize Deltek Costpoint to manage and report on project costs, billing, and financial data. Ensure accurate and timely entries and system updates.
• BI Reporting: Develop and generate reports using Costpoint's Business Intelligence tools to provide insights into project financial performance and support decision-making.
• Contract Accounting: Manage all financial aspects of government and commercial contracts, including setup, maintenance, and compliance with applicable regulations (e.g., FAR, CAS).
• Contract Billing: Prepare, review, and process contract invoices accurately and in accordance with client requirements. Ensure adherence to billing schedules and resolve any discrepancies.
• Incurred Cost Submissions: Lead the preparation of incurred cost submissions, including compiling data, supporting documentation, and coordinating with internal teams to meet deadlines.
• Proposal Pricing: Collaborate with clients to create detailed and compliant pricing models for proposals.
• Financial Analysis and Reporting: Monitor and analyze project costs and profitability. Prepare financial reports and present key findings to stakeholders.
• Compliance: Ensure all accounting activities align with company policies and government regulations. Stay current with changes in accounting standards and industry best practices.
• Excel Proficiency: Utilize advanced Excel functions (e.g., VLOOKUP, pivot tables, macros) to streamline financial processes, analyze data, and support reporting needs.
