Senior Product Designer, Home Decor - Creative Home and Kitchen
Doral, FL 33122
About the Job
About the Company: Our company is a developer and designer of Christmas and holiday home goods and decor. We sell in retail stores and online in the USA. We are seeking a talented and driven Senior Product Designer to join our team to help drive our product offerings to the next level.
Experience in designing products and managing teams is a must.
Responsibilities
Product development: Develop and launch new products that meet the needs of our target market.
Example: We have noticed pink polka dots are generally trending in home décor. You would design and propose colors/designs/patterns/decals to match these trends in a Christmas-centric way. For example, we could make a dinnerware set using this trend and adapt it to the holiday. Create unique illustrations that can be applied to a variety of products. Work with a junior graphic designer to make renderings and unique illustrations.
Team meetings: Meet with team to understand what is currently trending and selling online, and brainstorm new products based on findings.
Example: We have noticed that cheeky puns are popular for Halloween goods. The team shows that sales on that particular category have an opportunity. You work to brainstorm what puns are relatable and relevant, and how to apply those ideas to different related products.
Factory liaison: Coordinate with our international suppliers in China and other countries to innovate and manage our product development.
Example: We want to design a Santa Claus dressed in pink sequins. You would work with the factory to arrange a sample using the specific pantone and color of your choosing. Once the sample is delivered, you would make sure to adjust where necessary and manage the development until we reach the desired outcome.
Finished Product Management: Coordinate with the factories not only on product design, but also on the application of packaging based on brand manuals.
Example: We want to sell a nativity set, but it’s delicate and the packaging needs to be good enough to exhibit the product in a window box that still manages to protect the product in stores. Along with the factory and a junior graphic designer, decide what type of packaging is best for the item, and then apply the brand elements and product information and call outs to the design.
Cultural knowledge: Apply cultural knowledge and understanding of the Hispanic and European cultures to create products that appeal to our Hispanic-American and European-American target market.
Example: We have noticed that a certain geographic location has a growing Argentinian community, but there aren't really offerings for this demographic. We want to create a line of holiday décor that appeals to this target market.
