This opportunity will primarily support technical and programmatic management of the new Ship to Shore Connector (LCAC-100) class, as well as maintenance of the Legacy LCAC craft. In this role, you will support the Engineering Team in the drafting, editing, and verification of technical manuals, craft specifications, design reports, etc., as well as support testing and evaluation efforts of subcomponents and craft systems.
In this role you will:
- Provide technical design management and engineering support for propulsion and gas turbine systems, as well as waterfront inspection and repair oversight support associated with propulsion and gas turbine systems for program testing and trials
- Provide production and detail design support associated with the documentation used to define the baseline craft, problem resolution, and modifications
- Provide compliance analysis of proposed contract changes for completeness, ensuring that all of contract documentation areas impacted are addressed
- Provide Technical Data Package (TDP) coordination and development support
- Manage/edit TDP to ensure that requirements are written using correct specification terminology
- Collaborate with government and contractor personnel to develop technical documentation per contract requirements.
- Participate in formal design reviews, capture and status action items
- Perform special studies and prepare reports
- Draft design reports to document requirements, trade-offs, and basis for craft system and subsystem development and integration
- Review craft design products for format, technical feasibility, dimensioning and tolerance data, producibility, and technical accuracy
- Assist in the management of turbine and gearbox issues
- Review test plans and reports
- Conduct craft propulsion system and gas turbine inspections and repair oversight of craft on the waterfront for craft in availabilities at Assault Craft Units or at the shipbuilder while under construction
- Address main reduction gear issues
- Research, design, develop, test, or supervise the manufacturing and installation of electrical equipment, components, or systems.
- Develop, engineer, and prepare ship machinery and propulsion systems.
- Oversee and evaluate operation of equipment during acceptance testing, ship trials, and shakedown cruises.
- Review propulsion system and gas turbine data analysis; provide recommendations based on the data analysis results with presentations of associated data.
- Conduct Configuration Management (CM) by maintaining the integrity of work products using configuration identification, configuration control, configuration status accounting, and configuration audits.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 8 years of professional experience of essentially the same cope and complexity. In lieu of degree a Highschool Diploma/GED plus 15 or more years of relevant military and/or direct experience will be considered. Work experience may be adjusted based on education, or highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data.
- A current DoD security clearance or be ability to obtain an interim clearance post-employment and maintain per contract requirements.
- Experience with engines and gas turbines is required.
- Ability to operate personal computers and have good knowledge and operational abilities with Microsoft Office tools.
- Ability to support activities in a shipyard or naval facility. Some work may occur within an industrial field office, outdoors and/or aboard ship while the ship is undergoing construction, alteration, activation, overhaul, repair, and/or underway trials. Walking and climbing throughout the ship, to accomplish ship checks, may be required. Exposure to high noise levels, uncomfortable temperatures, heights, or other industrial safety conditions will require use of personal protective clothing and equipment.
- Ability to travel (25% or more) to support activities in a shipyard or naval facility or onboard while underway.
Additional desired experience and skills:
- A professional engineering degree from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited college or university is desired. Professional experience can be substituted for an engineering degree if five (5) or more years of specific work experience can be demonstrated in an analogous or higher-level position.
- Relevant U.S. Navy or U.S. Coast Guard experience in the areas of ship construction or ship repair is desired.
- Relevant Amphibious warship ship and/or craft experience is ideal.
- Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act of 1990 (DAWIA) certification is desired.
