A Day in the Life of a Senior Planner.
As a Senior Planner, you develop relationships with clients, mentor others, and lead exciting and challenging projects throughout Texas, while also supporting projects across our North American offices. You lead teams from a variety of disciplines; integrating input from a broad range of stakeholders to create award-winning plans that build momentum toward positive change in communities and lead directly to implementation.
Our projects are at all different scales, from national pedestrian and bicycle planning and design guidance for the Federal Highway Administration to State DOT and City Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plans. We work on multimodal corridor studies, Vision Zero, Safe Routes to School, trails and greenways, Complete Streets, and Urban Street Design Guidelines and we push ourselves and our clients to proactively think about equity every step of the way.
Qualifications of a Senior Planner:
- At least 10 years of transportation planning experience at a consulting firm or public entity, with experience in a consulting firm preferred
- A bachelor's or master's degree in transportation or urban planning, landscape architecture, urban design, or related field, preferred (or additional work experience)
- AICP preferred
- Demonstrated success independently managing projects and maintaining high levels of client satisfaction
- The motivation to win work for a growing office including forming and managing client relationships, identifying potential opportunities, and developing proposals and interview materials
- Experience planning and conducting public outreach and engagement
- Strong writing skills and experience working as a lead writer for planning documents
- Knowledge of multimodal transportation planning practices and techniques
- A working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
- A working knowledge of GIS software (ArcGIS or QGIS) and Adobe Creative Suites Cloud apps (Illustrator and InDesign) is a plus
- Fluency or a working knowledge of the Spanish language is a plus

Work Schedule for a Senior Planner
This full-time position typically works a flexible schedule of 40 hours a week. This position is currently remote in the Austin, Texas region with the expectation to eventually work in-person 2 to 3 days per week at an office in Austin. We will provide the necessary equipment and flexibility to work remotely along with other Austin-based team members.

Since 2017, a team of Toole Design engineers and planners have provided full-time, on-site staff augmentation to the City of Austin's Transportation Department to deliver Mobility Bond projects. We are creating a new, standalone Austin office to complement this team by working on a range of planning and design projects across Texas, many of which are already underway.
