About the Job
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will lead and mentor team members, guiding them in their tasks while overseeing budgeting, scheduling and staff management. The Senior Mechanical Engineer plays a key role in designing energy-efficient, sustainable HVAC and plumbing systems. The ideal candidate will take ownership of projects from inception to completion, driving both project success and the growth of our team.
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
• Current Professional Engineering License
• A minimum of 5 years as a Licensed Professional Engineer
• Ability to obtain Professional Licensure in the State of Texas
• 10+ years experience of MEP Design, specifically in Municipal/Aviation, Education, Healthcare and Commercial Office sectors
• 7+ years of managed MEP Design experience
• 3+ years of Project Management experience
• 3+ years of Supervisory experience directly over an MEP design team
• Valid Texas Driver License with acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and background check is required
Typical Duties
• Assumes Engineer of Record role for Mechanical and Plumbing disciplines.
• Provides overall direction for the MEP design team from inception to completion on a project-specific basis.
• Develops, maintains and monitors project budgets and schedules to ensure on-time, quality and on-budget project execution.
• Responsible for the designs and development of HVAC and plumbing systems.
• Performs and verifies load calculations for HVAC and plumbing systems.
• Performs CA tasks, reviews submittals/shop drawings, responds to RFIs and attends CA meetings.
• Conducts site visits to evaluate field installations and conducts field observations.
• Manages assigned projects including coordination and/or direction for the design team from inception to completion on a project-specific basis.
• Plans, schedules, conducts and/or coordinates detailed phases of assigned project work while maintaining quality standards on all projects.
• Leads design and construction meetings.
• Mentors junior team members and assigns duties to design staff.
• Provides periodic objective and comprehensive employee check-ins in support of Annual Performance Reviews.
• Prepares and monitors contracts, fee proposals and contract negotiations.
• Collaborates with Business Development to build relationships and fosters repeat work.
• Performs other duties, tasks and special projects as assigned.
