This role involves close collaboration with property managers, asset managers, and various stakeholders to deliver financial results and drive continuous improvement in the organization. Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Real Estate Accounting Senior Manager will oversee accounting needs for both a stabilized commercial real estate portfolio as well as greenfield real estate development projects. This position will be based at our West Los Angeles, CA office. We work a hybrid schedule with an in-office requirement Monday-Wednesday and the option to work remotely on Thursday and Friday.
Job Description- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, ensuring accurate and timely recording of financial transactions for all properties in our portfolio.
- Read and interpret complex lease agreements to determine tenant chargebacks and make judgement calls on accounting treatment in discussions with tenants.
- Manage a team of accounting professionals, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure high performance and productivity.
- Ensure clear customer service to Property Management, Real Estate Development, Corporate Accounting, Tax, Treasury, and other departments, acting as a liaison and providing financial insights to meet their needs.
- Manage weekly payment runs ensuring appropriate items are selected for payment and sufficient cash is available in bank accounts not linked to the corporate ZBA account.
- Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures in accordance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Manage quarterly and annual cash forecasts, ensuring accurate and timely projections to support financial planning and decision-marking.
- Drive the completion and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting packages.
- Coordinate with property managers, asset managers, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely reporting of property financial results.
- Oversee the preparation of CAM budgets, tracking of actual CAM against the budgets communicated to tenants, and lead the annual CAM reconciliation process.
- Conduct comprehensive reviews and in-depth analysis of accounting transactions, financial statements, and management reports across diverse organizations, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and proper financial statement classification of transactions.
- Manage the preparation of transaction flow documents for 1031 exchanges, intercompany settlements, and intercompany distributions and contributions.
- Manage the preparation of lender reporting packages, ensuring all are delivered on time and in full compliance with loan covenants and requirements.
- Manage the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts, collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop realistic financial goals.
- Identify opportunities for strategic projects and lead process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and effectiveness within the department.

- Drive completion of tax deliverables such as quarterly estimated income taxes, tax packages, and sales/use tax filings, in coordination with the Corporate Tax Department.
- Provide oversight and training to the accounting team, ensuring clear management of daily tasks and long-term development of staff.
- Possess over 10 years of comprehensive real estate accounting experience, demonstrating significant leadership in managerial capacities within a top-tier Public Accounting firm or in a dynamic real estate management or development environment with complex operations spanning multiple locations.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field, CPA certification required.
- Ability to read and interpret complex real estate lease agreements and evaluate chargeback opportunities to the tenants.
- Proven track record of directly overseeing teams of 5 or more individuals and effectively collaborating with other stakeholders numbering 30 or more, demonstrating adept management and interpersonal skills to drive organizational success.
- Experience leading strategic projects related to process improvements to deliver efficient and effective performance.
- Proficiency in Yardi Voyager across multiple modules (GL Manager, Cash Management, Budgeting, CAM).
- Demonstrated expertise in driving automation processes within Yardi modules, including but not limited to general ledger, cash management, and accounts payable, and fixed asset modules, resulting in streamlined processes and enhanced operational efficiency, reduction in errors and saved time and resources.
- Proven capability in leading successful systems and module implementations, ensuring stable operations after go-live.
- Advanced Excel skills required, proficiency in financial modeling and analysis.
- Results-oriented mindset with a consistent track record of meet demanding deadlines while prioritizing competing tasks.
- Exceptional leadership skills, with the ability to inspire, motive, and develop a high-performing team to achieve results, foster accountability, and cultivate talent with the organization.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex financial insights to diverse stakeholders.
Pay Range: $155,000 - $175,000 and may include a discretionary bonus. Final compensation will be dependent upon skills & experience.
