Overview:The Sr Home Loans Compliance Specialist provides first line of defense direct compliance support to formalize and implement Mortgage compliance requirements as dictated by the NCUA and CFPB. The position is responsible for maintaining the Mortgage component of Patelco’s compliance program, enforcing controls, and implementing changes as needed. The role monitors and tests compliance to ensure adherence to Patelco’s policies and procedures. The position partners with Learning and Development, Compliance, Mortgage operations and loan servicing, and internal and external counsel to identify and/or develop and administer compliance training programs to Home Loan Consultants, Home Loan Operations, and Home Loan Underwriting team members. The Mortgage Lending Compliance Principal will increase audit readiness for Mortgage by performing corrective actions in high-risk areas and by reviewing audit results to incorporate findings into remediation plans.
Responsibilities:- Revise Home Loans departmental compliance goals and objectives and creates roadmaps for corrective actions and to prevent future violations
- Ensure Mortgage’s adherence to compliance policies and procedures by completing risk assessments over mortgage operations.
- Update operational procedures that align to regulatory requirements. Implement compliance controls that align with new regulations or changes to existing regulations
- Monitor the effectiveness of the controls, identify compliance gaps or violations, research root cause, and implement corrective actions for actual and possible violations.
- Recommend corrective action when the need is identified.
- Participate in the GRC governance process to assist in updating and reviewing credit union policies and procedures based on regulatory changes, internal audits, and examinations by regulatory agencies.
- Prepare for regulatory examinations.
- Partner with the VP of Home Loans and VP of Compliance in reporting mortgage compliance activities and audit findings to the Board of Directors.
- Evaluate current protocols and processes to ensure key stakeholders are aware of changes and are reported effectively.
Functional Competencies
- Comprehensive understanding of the technical and business aspects of the mortgage business line, business model, and credit risk management.
- Experience reviewing internal and external audits and regulatory examination reports and a proven ability to rapidly recommend new ideas, procedural changes to products or services, or procedures to Home Loans and Compliance leadership to remediate or mitigate findings.
- Work with the Learning & Development team to identify and/or develop training programs for loan officers and other relevant roles (e.g., branches) to prevent violations and adhere to mortgage lending laws.
- Deep familiarity with mortgage banking standards, auditing, and compliance regulations; understands relevant regulatory standards and requirements impacting the organization and provides consultation to ensure compliance

- 7+ years of combined experience in banking, mortgage, and compliance roles
- Bachelor's Degree in related field
- NCCO Certification (NAFCU Certified Compliance Officer), Bank Certified Compliance Officer (CRCM), or similar certification
- In-depth knowledge of lending regulations such as TILA, RESPA, HMDA, ECOA, FCRA, FDCPA, FDPA, SCRA, BSA, OFAC, and Fair Lending.
- Compliance reporting, data analytics and compliance issue management experience.
- Experience with financial institutions larger than $10 billion in assets and exposure to oversight by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), a plus.

$98,986- $123,736/ per year
