Summary - basic function of the role
This role is responsible for driving HSSE programs within our US Manufacturing team and falls within the Americas HSSE Organizational Structure, reporting into the Regional HSSE Manager - Americas. This is a unique opportunity for an HSSE professional with a broad scope of experience to roll up their sleeves and make an impact on the lives of our employees. As you grow within this role, you'll take on daily leadership of our HSSE programs, advising business leaders and driving injury & illness prevention programs for our facilities. You should be able to laterally influence your peers and colleagues, and be able to build strong relationships from the get go. Additionally, you should be comfortable working with a team that is globally situated, utilizing teleconferencing platforms to collaborate and communicate. You should have experience developing HSSE policies/programs and rolling them out.
This role requires someone who is a self starter and as such, you should be able to walk out into a shop environment, find areas in need of improvement, and work with your colleagues to problem solve solutions. You will be responsible for owning our safety programs at our two assembly and machining facilities in Wisconsin (Columbus & Antigo). You will also be responsible for owning our safety program at our corporate office in Milwaukee.

Shift: Monday - Friday, occasional evenings and weekends may be required for off shift meetings with employees.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Drive HSSE Culture that prevents injuries, illness, and damage from occurring by:
- Proactively seeking to avoid HSSE hazards by promoting and increasing safety & environmental awareness within the US manufacturing & corporate teams and assisting with the development and roll out of companywide HSSE initiatives
- Training new employees for safety, environmental and security issues, administering the training management system, and training matrices.
- Ensuring that all tasks are furnished with suitable and sufficient hazard/risk assessments, documented, and communicated to appropriate personnel.
- Contribute to the development and execution of site specific HSSE plans, including Key Performance Indicator scorecards.
- Develop & improve management system elements, including policies, procedures, and work instructions to reflect changing operational circumstances, compliance requirements, and industry best practices.
- Lead, conduct, and participate in, incident learning teams, facilitating the usage of root cause analysis tools, and drafting and distributing lessons learned reports.
- Facilitate communication through site and regional HSSE forums / meetings and to drive consultation and participation through an active Safety Committee on each site.
- Assist with the drafting of compliance reports including OSHA, EPA & DNR documentation.
- To maintain and implement a robust Internal Assurance Audit Program in each of the areas of HSSE; to drive compliance to Legal requirements, Company Standards and ISO 45001 Standards.
- Drive the solicitation and support the implementation of actions, ideas and initiatives that aim to prevent injuries, illness, and damage to the environment from all employees.
- Take an active role in HSSE Management Reviews to drive Continuous Improvement.
- Perform security assessments as required.
- Perform administrative maintenance of the Qualityze Data Management System as required.
- Undertake regular site walks and support Senior Management with their planned Site Inspections.
Skills and Competencies
- Intermediate computer skills and experience including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

- Good working knowledge of EPA & government environmental regulations
- Good working knowledge of OSHA regulations.
- Good understanding of lean tools (error proofing, 5S, takt time, Kanban, standard work)
- Passion for the health, safety, and security of all employees and the environment
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university, or equivalent vocational qualification. 3 years of experience as a safety professional. Preferred experience working in and around manufacturing and/or service environments, including nuclear, power generation, oil and gas, and tool rental facilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Incident Investigation Certification
- Lead Auditor - ISO 9001/ISO 45001/ISO/IEC 17025
- Graduate Safety Professional (GSP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
- JSA or Behavioral Based Safety Training Certification.
- Bilingual - English/Spanish preferred
Physical Demands
Employee may have to lift documents/work materials up to 30 pounds in weight. Employee will have to be able to walk/climb to a variety of primary work locations, including traveling by air/auto to remote sites. Employee will need to listen, understand, and speak with team members in person, telephonically, and electronically at all levels within a diverse workforce and with supported organizations. Employee is able to work in front of a personal computer and telephone for long periods of time.
Flexibility to travel domestically around 10% of the time.
Work Environment
Primary work environment is temperature-controlled office setting and manufacturing facilities, but may also be visiting different job sites where following appropriate safety protocols at the location would be required, including the usage of respiratory protective equipment, hearing protection, and fall protection. Employee will be exposed to low levels of noise in the office and elevated levels of noise on job sites and in industrial areas.
