Key Responsibilities:
Estimate Preparation:
- Develop detailed cost estimates for construction projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
- Interpret architectural and engineering plans, project specifications, and other documentation to identify project requirements.
Bid Management:
- Lead the preparation of competitive bid proposals, ensuring accuracy and compliance with client requirements.
- Review and analyze subcontractor and supplier bids for inclusion in the final proposal.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and clients during the pre-construction phase.
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure alignment with project goals and budgets.
Market Analysis and Cost Research:
- Research and analyze market trends, material costs, and labor rates to maintain up-to-date pricing information.
- Develop and maintain relationships with vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors to negotiate favorable terms.
Project Risk Assessment:
- Identify potential project risks and provide mitigation strategies.
- Evaluate project timelines and resource requirements to ensure feasibility.
Leadership and Training:
- Mentor and guide junior estimators, providing technical expertise and support.
- Lead estimation meetings and coordinate efforts across departments.
Reporting and Documentation:
- Prepare detailed reports and presentations for management and clients.
- Maintain comprehensive records of all estimates, bids, and supporting documentation.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field. Relevant experience may substitute for formal education.Experience:
- Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in construction estimating, with at least 3 years in a senior or lead role.
- Proven expertise in estimating for [specific project types, e.g., commercial, residential, or industrial construction].
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in construction estimation software (e.g., ProEst, Bluebeam, PlanSwift).
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and labor costs.
- Advanced knowledge of contract types, procurement strategies, and project delivery methods.
Soft Skills:
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for client and team interactions.
- High attention to detail and organizational skills.
