The Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) is recruiting an experienced communications professional tasked with leading the development of diverse messaging strategies for major infrastructure projects. MDOT must communicate complex topics to various audiences. This role is tasked with leading the development of diverse messaging strategies for major infrastructure projects. This role will lead the efforts of multiple teams across the department by guiding their marketing and community engagement teams, business partnership teams, social media teams, and other professionals within the MDOT Office of Strategy and Public Affairs. The Communications Team members will serve at MDOT Headquarters or one of the MDOT transportation business units promoting the: - Helen Delich Bentley Port of Baltimore - Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport - State Highway Administration - Maryland Transportation Authority - Motor Vehicle Administration or - Maryland Transit Administration The role of the MDOT Office of Strategy and Public Affairs Team is to keep Marylanders informed about key changes, improvements, and benefits throughout Maryland's transportation network. We are looking for people who can tell the stories of MDOT and its modes through social/digital media, video, news packages, photos, blogs, press releases, speeches, events, and podcasts. Key responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to: - Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders
- Researching and developing efforts to deliver strategic customer service statewide
- Delivering departmental narratives and strategies that focus on safety, positive returns of investment, project delivery, and innovation
- Implementing communications strategies that align with the four people-based strategic priorities focusing on customer service, advancing major projects, modernizing the organization, and formalizing asset management
- Developing communications, public relations campaigns, and media relations strategies
- Collaborating with internal teams on and maintaining open communication with senior management
- Editing and updating promotional material and publications (i.e., brochures, videos, social media posts, etc.)
- Developing and implementing all details of outreach events
- Seeking opportunities for partnerships to get the word out about key MDOT initiatives
- Working with subject matter experts to develop original/proactive content and answer media questions
- Engaging with our customers, our communities, business/industry representatives, elected officials, and other stakeholders to provide superior customer service
These communications jobs serve as essential personnel required to report to work during critical time periods and may be on-call 24/7, as needed. Salary is dependent upon experience and level of expertise. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education: A bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Communications, Marketing, Multimedia, Public Administration, or related field. Experience: Five (5) years of strategic experience with a nonprofit, for-profit, government, or philanthropy that focused on working on growth, business development, strategy, planning, or related issues. Two (2) years of this experience must have included consulting and strategic planning experience. The ideal candidate will possess: · A master’s degree · Strong leadership and communication skills. · Vendor management and customer relationship management experience. · Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal. · Excellent people skills. · Proficient computer skills. · Available to travel Note: U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as defined under the Minimum Qualifications may be substituted for the required education and experience on a year-for-year basis. |
