Description
Skyworks Solutions seeks a Sr. Director of MEMS Technology to lead our global technology, engineering, and product development efforts for MEMS technologies. The leader will report to the Vice President of Acoustic Engineering and EDA and will drive Skyworks MEMS strategy. The Senior Director of MEMS Technology will leverage a strong background in MEMS process and device engineering as well as end-to-end product development and integration into MEMS-based solutions to define and execute the roadmap for our MEMS technologies and products.
The leader will be responsible for delivering high quality MEMS products that integrate into Skyworks precision timing modules. They will work cross-functionally and in close collaboration with Business Unit’s Silicon IC design engineering leaders as well as other divisional engineering leaders and external partners to ensure the technical and commercial success of the complete MEMS-based products.
The ideal Sr. Director of MEMS Technology is a passionate leader with the ability to drive an expanding area developing MEMS solutions that enable a competitive advantage for Skyworks. The successful leader will apply their knowledge and breadth of exposure across their team to drive well-constructed and differentiated MEMS solutions to market.
Responsibilities
Lead Skyworks' advanced engineering MEMS development efforts by quickly building and managing a high-velocity MEMS engineering team, establishing the product vision, and supporting the development and production of parts by being the technical expert.
Collaborate with the senior management team to influence strategic business decisions regarding MEMS technologies, ensuring effective and regular communication with the executive team and peers across the organization.
Work with external partners and internal development teams to utilize Skyworks' technologies in creating and implementing a compelling technology roadmap that supports business unit product opportunities in timing, VCO, VCXO, and more.
Formulate and drive best practices that are adopted across the MEMS engineering organization; drive an execution and efficiency mindset across all engineering functions as it relates to operationalizing the MEMS technology development. Continuously track and benchmark performance to ensure our MEMS products are world-class amongst our peers.
Define and drive robust design methodologies across the MEMS engineering organization that instill a high-performance mindset, drive execution excellence and efficiency. Drive continuous improvement and evolution of the design methodology in response to lessons learned and new technology requirements.
Provide high-level technical contributions to customer relationships ensuring we can deliver products that are fully compliant with customer requirements.
Meet financial objectives by accurately forecasting requirements, preparing budgets, anticipating expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions.
Leadership responsibilities include: Attract and retain top talent while actively managing underperformance. Articulate the mission and rally the team around success, leading from the front with a high level of ownership and demanding excellence from yourself and your team. Travel will be an important part of the position as well.
Required Experience and Skills
Industry experience: 15 years+ experience in the semiconductor industry with a minimum of ten years of MEMS engineering leadership roles for a global semiconductor organization.
Engineering Expertise: Extensive experience in the design, development, and manufacturing of MEMS products. Has experience operationalizing business technology development.
M&A: Depth of experience in identifying, assessing and integrating acquisition targets.
Production: A proven track record of aggressively driving products into market in a high-volume production environment (ideally, MEMS technology development and New Product Introduction (NPI) of MEMS technology into high volume production).
High volume ramp experience, including experience to define and drive DFT/DFM/DFR practices, to drive yield improvement, and to deal with RMAs and quality excursions.
Analytics: Experience with analyzing complex, massive and multi-dimensional data to mine for key attributes that impact performance, or yield, or quality.
Leadership: A proven leader of an engineering team. Has managed multi-cultural teams before and has experience leading effectively in a multi-cultural, multi-geographic engineering environment. Ability to provide a high-level technical vision for the MEMS engineering organization while dropping in to help solve engineering and production problems when needed.
Cross-Functional: Experience working with both business units, executives, and manufacturing engineering teams to achieve production road map goals for MEMS products.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Physics or Chemistry required. Master’s degree preferred.

The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is currently USD $178,400 - $376,700 per year. Starting base pay will depend on relevant experience and skills, training and education, business needs, market demands, the ultimate job duties and requirements, and work location. Skyworks has different base pay ranges for different work locations in the U.S. Benefits include access to healthcare benefits (including a premium-free medical plan option), a 401(k) plan and company match, an employee stock purchase plan, paid time off (including vacation, sick/wellness, parental leave), among others.
