Senior Designer
Reports to Brand Director
The Senior Designer is responsible for taking on a variety of high-exposure design projects within the scope of the ministry’s evangelical efforts, including but not limited to: editorial and cover design for books, digital designs for online campaigns, art selection for Word on Fire Institute course content, collateral material for conferences, printed material for mass distribution, web design, and the creation of new materials based on existing content. The Senior Designer will take a design brief, organize the project and junior designers, and oversee it from concept to delivery, either by way of digital launch or through selected print vendors. The Senior Designer will work closely with the publishing, marketing, development, distribution, and Institute teams.

Responsibilities
Design book covers
Present design concepts to individuals, teams, and departments, clearly articulating design rationale and creative processes
Provide recommendations for the layout, typography, print materials, and overall design of trade books
Partner with the internal technology team to provide visual web design for various ministry initiatives (basic coding experience is helpful though not required)
Assist with branding and creation of collateral material for the ministry’s on-location conferences, including banners, programs, and promotional materials
Conceptualize new design-led products based upon Bishop Barron and Word on Fire’s existing offerings and content
Oversee a team of freelance or internal designers when required for specific projects
Conceptualize and recommend new design approaches to marketing materials/emails
Contribute regular article designs to periodicals (Evangelization & Culture journal)
Ensure that all design outputs align with the ministry’s visual identity and brand guidelines
Select appropriate art and photography that represents the style and ethos of Word on Fire
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or related area, or equivalent experience
5 years’ experience in graphic design
Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, with exemplary skills in Illustrator, Photoshop, Indesign
Results-oriented, independent self-starter, and expert time manager
Great organizational skills with close attention to detail
Ability to manage direct report(s) and freelancers to meet all graphic/marketing deadlines
Ability to consistently produce quality design in a timely fashion and defend design decisions to other departments
Ongoing knowledge of the latest design trends
Experience with acquiring rights and permissions associated with artistic assets used by the ministry
Commitment to the mission of Word on Fire
Desired Qualifications
Ability to work closely with the technology team to create files according to UX/UI principles to be used in all forms of digital marketing
Familiarity with the work of Bishop Robert Barron and Word on Fire
Familiarity with trends in typography and type development
