ABOUT THE POSITION

Senior Civil Engineer /Project Manager – Energy | Albany, New York or Vermont | Hybrid

VHB is looking for a Senior Civil Engineer/Project Manager to work within our growing Renewable Energy Market practice with a focus on all phases of renewables development, including solar, EV charging, and battery storage facilities. Successful candidates will have strong leadership skills and a solid technical background in design, permitting, siting and evaluating civil engineering projects in New York state.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of site civil plans and specifications for a multitude of renewable energy infrastructure projects with a focus on sustainability and resiliency
• Work within an integrated team of civil, water resource, and electrical engineers, ecologists, regulatory specialists, surveyors, transportation designers, project managers, attorneys, and landscape architects
• Lead and assist with civil engineering site design plans (i.e. grading and drainage design, utility design, and site layout)
• Preparation and/or reviewing of design criteria, drawings and specifications
• Lead the preparation of siting and other site civil-related permitting materials
• Project task financial performance, and management of small or medium projects
• Attend meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to establish their needs and discuss design/permitting issues
• Construction stormwater monitoring support
• Technical and design report writing

Skills & Abilities

• Excellent verbal, written, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills
• Team oriented with ability to perform multiple tasks independently in a timely manner and collaborate effectively and positively with other emerging professionals and managers
• Ability to work in a fast-paced office, virtual, and field environment, in rural or urban environments
• Proven strong work-ethic and self-motivated to produce high quality outcomes
• Highly organized, and detail oriented, with ability think creatively and formulate solutions in team environment
• Knowledge of local and state regulations governing site design
• Knowledge of typical land entitlement process, including permitting at the local and state level
• Knowledge and applied skills with industry standard software (i.e. AutoCAD Civil 3D and HydroCAD)

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field of study required
• Master's degree a plus (may substitute for 1 year of experience)
• 8-11 years of civil engineering experience required
• 11-15 years of civil engineering experience preferred
• PE (Professional Engineer) license required
• Experience with NY permitting required, NY energy permitting a plus

Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in Albany, NY is $100,000-$150,000. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.
