About the Job
We are seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to join our engineering team and lead civil design efforts for large-scale solar projects. This role will involve overseeing site assessments, design of civil infrastructure, and ensuring that the solar installations are constructed to meet all engineering standards, safety regulations, and sustainability goals. You will collaborate closely with other engineering disciplines, project managers, and construction teams to deliver high-quality, cost-effective, and on-time solar energy systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the civil engineering design for solar energy projects, including site layout, grading, drainage, access roads, foundations, and other civil works.
- Conduct site assessments and geotechnical investigations to determine appropriate designs for solar power plants.
- Prepare detailed civil engineering drawings and specifications for solar installations, ensuring compliance with local, national, and international codes and regulations.
- Design site layouts, including solar array placements, roadways, and stormwater management systems.
- Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and environmental engineers to ensure integrated project designs that meet project objectives.
- Conduct cost analysis and provide input on material selection and construction methods to optimize the civil design and budget.
- Oversee the preparation of construction documents, including site plans, grading plans, and utilities design.
- Provide support during the construction phase, including reviewing contractor submittals, managing construction schedule, and ensuring quality control of civil works.
- Supervise and mentor junior engineers and technical staff, providing guidance and support in civil engineering design and project management.
- Perform risk assessments, feasibility studies, and due diligence for potential project sites.
- Liaise with regulatory authorities and other stakeholders to secure the necessary permits and approvals for construction.
- Ensure all projects are completed in compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations.
- Coordinate with procurement teams to select appropriate construction materials and equipment.
- Contribute to project proposals, including civil engineering scope, estimates, and schedules.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (or related field). A Master's degree is a plus.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification is required.
- 7+ years of experience in civil engineering, with at least 4 years of experience in the solar or renewable energy industry.
- Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles, including site design, grading, drainage, and foundation design.
- Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, etc.) and other relevant design tools.
- Familiarity with solar energy systems, including site design requirements specific to solar farms (e.g., access roads, layout, environmental considerations).
- Proven experience managing civil engineering projects from concept to completion, with strong project management skills.
- Ability to perform site evaluations and coordinate geotechnical studies to inform design decisions.
- Knowledge of civil codes, environmental regulations, and permitting requirements for large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact with multidisciplinary teams, stakeholders, and regulatory authorities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and budget targets.
- Strong commitment to safety and environmental sustainability in all aspects of project execution.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in designing infrastructure for large-scale utility solar projects.
- Familiarity with PV site design software and energy storage systems.
- Knowledge of stormwater management, erosion control, and other environmental practices related to construction.
- Experience with project management and construction coordination in the renewable energy sector.
