JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Biomedical Equipment Technician fixes and maintains patient care equipment devices, instruments, systems and related technologies to ensure its safe and effective performance. Performs scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) according to Hospital policies, procedures and industry-recognized standards. Maintains documentation of all service events, performance tests and corrective maintenance performed on a wide range of equipment types, including life support, monitoring, diagnostic, therapeutic and general clinical (patient care) devices. Participates in and/or helps with development of departmental and hospital-based continuous quality improvement initiatives. Maximizes patient safety by implementing the proper use, application and operational performance of patient care equipment. Serves as a role model with respect to all relevant aspects of the job, including, but not limited to communication, documentation, and demeanor.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
- Install and service diagnostic and therapeutic medical equipment by using manufacturer service manuals and schematic diagrams
- Accountable for ordering repair parts and ensuring adequate levels of spare parts for medical equipment service.
- Performs scheduled inspections on medical devices and systems as assigned, using specialized test equipment, tools, and simulation devices.
- Documents all actions and test results according to department policy, using computerized maintenance management software applications and other standard office software applications.
- Performs rounds in assigned areas to access how equipment is being utilized, and to answer any operational questions from equipment users.
- Keeps equipment users informed of the status of fixes.
- Identifies the most prudent means of fix based on clinical need and cost.
- May travel some to other Baylor facilities to help with scheduled and unscheduled service activities.
- Coordinates and participates in special projects as assigned, such as new equipment acquisition purchase planning; development of bid specifications; review of vendor proposals; installation planning; acceptance testing; renovations; equipment upgrades; and equipment disposal.
- Reviews the outcome of preventive maintenance actions and makes recommendations to management staff concerning the need to make changes to the PM schedule frequency, procedures and/or data documentation forms. Recommends and develops new equipment PM and incoming (acceptance) testing procedures.
- Give leadership and managerial oversight to team members as assigned.
- Attends routine and special meetings, such as Environment of Care, construction status, equipment pre-purchase evaluation and implementation.
- Ability to take part in on-call rotation.
- Accountable for the aptitude assessment and training Biomedical Equipment Technicians (BMETs).
- Performs extra tasks as assigned by senior staff.
- Performs other position appropriate duties as required in a competent, professional and courteous way.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
- Must have a Valid TX Driver¨s License
- Five years of prior computer systems and networking experience require
- Excellent communication and relational skills
- Effective time-management and organizational skills
- Knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements required
- Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) required

- EDUCATION - Associate's or 2 years of work experience above the minimum qualification

- Drivers License (TXDL): If moving from out of state must obtain valid TX DL within 90 days of hire.
