Position Overview:
As a Senior Accountant you will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of multiple properties and community management portfolios. You will play a crucial role in maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in property management accounting, hands-on experience with AppFolio, and a deep understanding of community management finances.

Position Overview:
As a Senior Accountant you will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of multiple properties and community management portfolios. You will play a crucial role in maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in property management accounting, hands-on experience with AppFolio, and a deep understanding of community management finances.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting & Analysis:
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for property and community portfolios.
- Perform account reconciliations, ensuring the accuracy of general ledger entries and financial reports.
- Analyze and interpret financial data, providing insights and recommendations for operational improvements and cost control.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and other industry-specific accounting standards.
- Property & Community Management Accounting:
- Oversee and manage the full accounting cycle for multiple properties, including rent rolls, lease tracking, and accounts payable/receivable.
- Prepare and review operating budgets, capital budgets, and forecast cash flow for properties and communities.
- Handle month-end close procedures for property management accounts, including accruals, depreciation, and asset management.
- Assist with year-end audits, tax filings, and coordination with external auditors.
- AppFolio Management:
- Utilize AppFolio property management software to maintain accurate financial records, track tenant payments, process invoices, and generate reports.
- Provide training and support to junior accounting staff and other departments on AppFolio system functionalities.
- Ensure proper data entry and consistency across all financial transactions in the AppFolio platform.
- Team Leadership & Collaboration:
- Work closely with property managers and community managers to ensure financial accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
- Mentor and train junior accounting staff, providing guidance on property management-specific accounting practices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, leasing, and maintenance, to support business objectives and improve financial performance.
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA or CMA preferred, but not required.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in property management or community management accounting.
- Hands-on experience with AppFolio property management software is required.
- Strong understanding of real estate accounting principles, including lease accounting, rent rolls, and common area maintenance (CAM) reconciliation.
- Skills & Abilities:
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other accounting software.
- Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
