Founded in 1838, The Pennington School is an independent, co-educational school serving day and boarding students in grades 6 through 12. Total student enrollment is approximately 500, of which 25% are boarding students.
We are seeking a temporary Groundskeeper/Maintenance Worker to join our Operations team, reporting to the assistant director of Operations. This position is full-time, non-exempt (hourly), working forty+ hours a week from April to October, 2024.
Essential Responsibilities
- Maintains the appearance of the campus by performing overall grounds maintenance, including but not limited to the following: the lining of athletic fields, leaf removal, snow and ice removal, mulching, watering, pruning, fertilization and weed control
- Participates in general maintenance activities on all buildings (not limited to a certain zone or building)
- Responds to emergency calls for system and equipment failure
- Assists with the preparation of event set-ups and breakdowns
- Other duties as assigned
Essential Qualifications
- Experience with grounds maintenance and equipment is necessary
- Must be able to operate heavy grounds equipment, light grounds equipment, power equipment, school vehicles
- Experience with general maintenance, repairs, and carpentry required
- Skills in facility maintenance and repairs to perform routine and non-routine services
- Ability to adjust to new industry techniques and become familiar with new equipment as required
- Deliver on-time services to students, faculty, and staff for all buildings on campus and effectively communicate with community members
- Maintain a clean and orderly workspace in all work areas
- Must be available for overtime/on-call hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed
- Ability to work in all weather conditions
- Must pass the State of New Jersey criminal background check
- Ability to follow all safety protocols and procedures
- Must be able to lift up and/or carry objects up to 50 pounds
- Frequent bending, pushing, reaching, climbing, and walking
