Position Overview
The Safety Specialist will be responsible for assisting in the implementation of the Company health and safety program at specific job sites. This individual will perform health and safety reviews at the project(s) to ensure implementation and compliance of Company and government/regulated standards. This person will be a resource to the project(s) in preventing occupational injury/illness related losses by establishing appropriate loss control/reduction activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the maintenance and implementation of safety programs, compliance plans and initiatives.
- Performs the role of investigative lead in complex investigation of incidents, near misses, and property damage incidents. Ensures follow-up is done to minimize future exposure and ensures proper records/ documents are maintained.
- Conduct routine safety observations to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies, company environmental, health and safety policies, procedures and practices.
- Safety Specialist will always be on site.
- Conduct written site audits and Job behavior observations at frequency dictated by management and or client.
- Keep all safety credentials current
- Represent Radiance solar during OSHA inspections
- Assist in training endeavors when requested.
- Coordinates with others for the purpose of completing projects work order efficiently and effectively
- May respond to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate health/ safety security concerns.
Qualifications
- Qualified candidate will have 3+ years of safety experience preferably within the solar and or construction industry.
- OSHA 510 or CHST certification is required.
- Familiar with local, state, and federal codes as they apply to all aspects of solar construction.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate environmental health and safety related risks
- Understand OSHA requirements.
- Firs-Aid / CPR certification is preferred
- Demonstrated ability to work with a team with attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Must be a self starter and able to work with minimal supervision
- Experienced in conducting safety orientations with subcontractors and employees and maintaining safety logs.
- This position will be working in the field and must be comfortable working outside in the elements.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk and perform site inspections 70% of the day.
- Perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, standing and walking significant distances.
- Lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift items weighing more than 50 .
- Visual ability ( 20/20 corrected or uncorrected) to observe and detect signs of danger.
- Safety Specialist will be on site but up to 90% travel or more is required.
