JOB PURPOSE: The Safety Manager maintains and promotes a safe, injury-free, and healthy work environment through various systems, controls, procedures, and laws.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Oversee and actively support the BBS, RAPTORS, program. Maintain general safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state and federal regulations and formulate as needed with change of state and federal laws. Make Root Cause Analyses of injury causes to identify trends, patterns, and how to avoid in the future. Inspect the Underground and Surface facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards and help identify barriers that may exist. Coordinate the investigation of injuries and near misses to provide recommendations for corrective action.
Complete and file all necessary reports to MSHA and the state regulatory agencies. Be aggressive on understanding and implementing processes for new compliance regulations from both the State and Federal agencies [i.e. Quartz and Surface Equipment. Monitor all aspects of the safety process for compliance. Devise, supervise and coordinate training programs, serving as instructor when necessary. Oversee and Maintain Mine Rescue teams and keep trainings and certifications up to date. Manage Mine monitor and CPDM and Safety items such as phones, Proximity Pads, Meters keeping Calibrations and maintenance up on them to comply with State and Federal laws. Interact with regulatory agencies during inspections, hearings, etc. Develop, implement, and conduct safety and health training initiatives. Supervise the Safety department and those under your direct charge providing goals and objectives and reviews of job performance at least once a year.
PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- S. Occupational Safety and Health or B.S. Mining Engineering preferred. Minimum of 7 to 10 years in a safety related position.
- Be knowledgeable in the Behavioral Based Safety Program (BBS)
- Completion of BBS Facilitator Training preferred or ability to obtain within 2 years
- Excellent knowledge of safety-related regulatory compliance environments.
- Ability to proficiently interact with all levels of company employees, contractors and State and Federal agencies.
- Must be a conscientious, self-motivated and strong team player.
- Preferred Certifications: CSMP, EMT, Utah Mine Foreman, MSHA Trainer or ability to obtain within two years.
- Proficient MS Office and Internet skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
POSITION WILL REPORT TO: General Manager of Fossil Rock Mine.
