About the Job
The Scientist 2 position is responsible for the review of consumptive water use permit applications as established under Chapter 373, Part II Florida Statute, and consistent with Florida Administrative Code (including Chapters 40E-2 and 40E-1), and the Applicant’s Handbook for Water Use Permit Applications Within the South Florida Water Management District. The successful candidate will have a working knowledge of hydrogeological principles and concepts, organizational skills, demonstrated attention to detail, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. The scope of work includes generally routine tasks of limited complexity, requiring basic problem-solving skills and the ability to exercise some professional judgment.
Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to: performing reviews of water use permit applications, guiding the public through the review process, conducting pre-application meetings, conducting occasional site visits, participating in collaborative efforts with other areas of the Bureau and District, providing information and/or data gathering, attending meetings, and providing input relative to areas of expertise. Work is performed under close supervision.
A high level of proficiency using computer software (e.g. Microsoft Excel, Word and Adobe Acrobat) is required. Interest in career development, including working towards a professional certification (P.G. or P.E.) is desirable.
Employment Guidelines:
Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Hydrogeology or related field and 1+ year(s) of related experience.
Interest in career development, including working towards a professional certification (P.G. or P.E.) is desirable.
Licenses:
Valid State of Florida Driver’s License required.
Physical Requirements/ Working Environment:
Due to the District’s response role and in the total scope of emergency management, the position will be required to provide support before, during and after major storm events and emergency situations, such as hurricanes and other declared emergencies, depending on the assigned emergency response role.
Veteran’s Preference:
