Position Overview:
Solid Power is seeking a Robotics Engineering Manager to join our talented team of engineers and scientists working to revolutionize the battery industry through the development of next‐generation, all solid‐state rechargeable batteries. This position is a leadership role and critical in helping transition Solid Power technology to market.
The main responsibilities include lead a team responsible for: 1) acquiring machine tools for manufacturing of all solid-state electrolyte and pouch cell batteries 2) provide "down-machine" response and fixes 3) provide technical documentation to support technology transfer to Solid Power's customers 4) provide technical expertise for both domestic and international machine testing and customer support 5) provide machine design expertise for in-house, design-built machine tools, testing assemblies, and R&D equipment. The candidate will manage a team of about 6 engineers. The preferrable candidate will have experience in the manufacturing of lithium-ion batteries or solid-state batteries.
Job Duties:
- Sets the strategic direction of the department by aligning operational objectives and work plans to company objectives.
- Provide technical direction, leadership, and managerial support for Solid Power's team of mechanical engineers.
- Develop employees' skills through direct training or coordination of training.
- Assist Director of Automation with budget planning, project prioritization, and department strategy
- Work with controls engineers to implement new functionality on cell manufacturing equipment.
- Collaborate with maintenance engineering to develop a PM schedule and list of key backups for cell manufacturing equipment.
- Team with external/internal shops to manufacture key automation components.
- Work with multiple departments on problems related to cell manufacturing.
- Support in commissioning automation line for cell manufacturing. Including FAT, SAT, and Validation.
- Detailed analysis of engineering drawings and models provided by Solid Power and external vendors.
- Develop comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing process from slurry to completed cell, including hands on operations of equipment.
- Working with program management during vendor visits to provide technical expertise.
- Create detailed documentation including weekly reports.
- Design of tooling and equipment for process improvements.
- Design various test fixtures to test alternative manufacturing approaches.
- Developing/modifications to work instructions and standard operating procedures.
- Support technical questions from vendors and clients.
- Understand telemetry equipment (Beta gauge, Thickness monitoring, camera, etc.)
- Support PMFEA documentation.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent education/experience) in mechanical engineering or related discipline and/or 10+ years of experience in an automation manufacturing equipment.
- Must have the ability to travel for work (approximately 25%).
- Must have a Certified Solidworks Associate in Mechanical Design (CSWA – Solidworks).
- Certified in ASME Y14.5 2018 GD&T or International ISO equivalent, preferred.
- Rapid learner and self-motivated who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative start-up environment.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational skills with a strong attention to detail.
- Familiarity with SAP is preferred.
- Experience with Keyence instrumentation and Allen Bradley PLCs preferred.
- Familiarity with SMC Pneumatics / Electrical actuators preferred
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk.
- Able to periodically lift up to 45lbs.
- Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as necessary including, but not limited to eye protection, hair net, gloves, face mask, coveralls, full-face respirator or PAPR.
Salary Range: $110,000 - $165,000/Annually
