About the opportunity
As the supervisor to three teams of mechanics based in Richmond and Berkeley, CA., you’ll track mechanical repair and maintenance projects, keep tabs on a wide variety of vehicles (trucks, cranes, chippers, etc.), enter inventory into the Tatem’s parts database, schedule employees, monitor timekeeping, and guide each team to keep their work locations safe and as organized as possible.
The right person for this role is comfortable working in an outdoor auto garage environment. He/She/They should have considerable experience working on a wide variety of vehicles and be great at estimating the time involved in repairing/maintaining specific equipment. They should also be computer savvy, able to run reports regarding inventory and labor hours, and able to communicate well via email and with a wide range of people from entry-level mechanics to our Director of Finance.

This is a full-time, year-round position with a starting salary of between $66,500.00 and $74,880.00 depending on your relevant work experience, fit for the role, and fit to our company culture. The position comes with competitive benefits including:
Work Environment
Our new Fleet Coordinator will work full-time, Monday through Friday, at three mechanical yards based in Berkeley and Richmond, CA. Initially, you may need to be the first person on-site and the last to leave. Folks who are not available to work five ten-hour days should not apply. Overtime is paid, of course, beyond eight hours in any day.

Your Responsibilities Include:
- Manage mechanics in three locations
- Manage a wide variety of projects to ensure they are completed in a timely manner and that labor hours and parts are being appropriately charged to each project
- Schedule and track maintenance and repairs using Tatem’s Fleet Maintenance software database for three regional locations
- Communicate daily with managers and team leads who need specific equipment to be available for specific jobs. Use the computer to create schedules.
- Review and approve weekly timecards & authorize overtime as needed
- Source parts, as needed, to aid the progression of projects
- Guide your team: learn their areas of expertise, and delegate wisely; collaborate with peers to balance daily workloads across all three locations. Reviewing existing job responsibilities and assigning duties to team members
- Provide maintenance records to our Administrative Fleet Management Administrative Assistant
- Create reports and printouts using Tatem’s that allow us to understand which teams are most productive and efficient
- Develop and implement a strong working system to guarantee reliable and accurate execution of projects
- Work with our Fleet Administrative Assistant to update government-regulated databases
- Sell vehicles and machinery no longer needed
- Locate out-of-stock parts from outside sources and submit emergency orders as needed.
- Follow up on back-ordered parts to keep repair projects flowing smoothly
- Other projects as time allows
Requirements, Experience, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience working as a mechanic professionally
- Fluent in both English & Spanish
- Supervisory experience
- Valid and clean* CA Driver’s license. (*no points)
- Reliable transportation to/from work
- A positive motivator and leader to other employees
- Solid time management skills and the ability to use SOFTWARE apps to keep track of your to-do list on your phone and computer
- You live within an easy commute of West Berkeley. Our address is 2828 8th Street. Please hop on Google maps, set the travel time to 7:00 a.m. to determine how long your commute will be. The person we hire will live within a 40-minute commute of the office
- The standard stuff: Smart with great problem-solving skills. Able to keep personal phone calls and non-work-related chit chat to a minimum, being extremely hardworking and emotionally intelligent
- Computer and software skills: Microsoft Suite, Word, Excel, etc.
- Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship
- Able to pass a drug test for illegal drugs and a physical exam to set the bar for your current health status
- Bonus points will be given to folks who have
- Fleet experience – ordering parts, working with engines
- Bonus points for Class-A/truck license
- Bonus points for specific experience working on equipment used in the tree care industry such as Morebark chippers, skidders, stump grinders, excavators, log loaders, skid steer loaders, cranes, and mulchers
- Bonus points for certifications in First Aid, Safety Training, CPR, Safe Driver, or other work-related trainings
