The Resource Nurse is responsible for the smooth and efficient patient flow on the unit. Ensuring that standards of practice are maintained, reviewed, and continuously developed and that staff deliver safe, effective, patient-centered, efficient, timely, and equitable care within their scope of practice as part of the multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Beth Israel Milton is currently seeking a part-time Resource Nurse for the day shift.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager, or designee, within the framework of the RN license, participates in the following activities:
Act as a change agent, developing clinically effective practice through the effective utilization and integration of evidence; setting, implementing, and monitoring evidence based policies, procedures, and protocols
Ensure coordination of the patient's journey by planning and coordinating the episode of care including the smooth transition to other settings, promoting effective discharge, and communication with interdisciplinary and interagency teams as required
Coordinate nursing interventions, influencing clinical decisions and monitoring the quality of patient care provided through using expert clinical knowledge relevant to own field of practice, underpinned by theory and experience
Act as a role model, creating a supportive ethos to empower staff to contribute to the delivery of very high quality person-centered care
Assigns all team members to patient assignments, including breaks and lunch
Attends interdisciplinary rounds, follow up with action items and communicate to the team
Directs admissions, discharge, and general flow of patients
Works in collaboration with the nursing supervisors and the ED Resource Nurse
While daily goals must be met, effective resource nurses ae flexible and able to prioritize and adapt during emergent situations
Maintains adequate supplies on the unit
Ensure all equipment on the unit is fully working in collaboration with bio-med
Maintains and check all emergency equipment is in working order
Creating an environment in which effective learning can take place
Provides patient care utilizing the nursing process
Systematically asses the health status of the patient
Analyzes and interprets data and makes nursing judgments regarding care
Plans, implements, and coordinates nursing interventions
Evaluates outcome of nursing interventions
Revises/updates plan of care
Documents nursing process clearly and concisely
Considers specific culture beliefs and practices when caring for patients. Utilizes interpreter services for patients with limited English proficiency.
Performs all duties in accordance with safety and other laws, rules, and regulations as set forth by appropriate regulatory and governmental agencies and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policy and procedure
Adheres to standard precautions
Actively participates in unit-based Q.I. studies and unit meetings
Attends and/or participates in in-house or outside training programs to improve and augment skills and knowledge
Assess, plans, and implements nursing care of the patient recovering from moderate sedation and anesthesia, utilizing special skills, knowledge, and judgment in observing, reporting, and responding to symptoms and condition of patients and adheres to established philosophy, policies, and procedures
ADDITIONAL REQUIRED COMPONENTS:
Employee maintains competencies (position specific and hospital-wide) required for the specific patient population served
Performs all duties in accordance with safety and other laws, rules, and regulations as set forth by appropriate regulatory and governmental agencies and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policy and procedure
May be required to perform similar or related duties as may be necessary on an emergency basis or as designated by the department manager or supervisor
The nature of the tasks/responsibilities required of employees in this position will likely expose them to bloody and bodily fluids. Employees will be oriented to and required to understand and follow the standard precautions for infection control. A summary list of all tasks and procedures that may cause exposure to blood and body fluids is listed in the Physical Abilities Job Description. Also identified is the protective gear that is available.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Current licensure by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing
Basic Life Support certification required
Advanced Cardiac Life Support required
Current IV skill preferred, completion of IV competency within six months of hire
At least two years medical-surgical experience preferred
Telemetry experience required.
