Summary of Responsibilities:
The estimator is essential to both sales and project management, creating accurate cost estimates and helping ensure our projects run smoothly. They work with the sales team to prepare competitive bids for new projects and assist project managers in staying on budget for ongoing work. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, knowledgeable about the industry, and an excellent communicator.
Essential Functions
New Sales Support:
- Review project specs, drawings, and customer needs with the sales team.
- Create detailed cost estimates and prepare bid proposals with timelines and budgets.
- Conduct site visits to assess conditions and potential cost impacts.
- Stay current on market pricing, industry trends, and material costs.
Existing Projects Support:
- Work with project managers to monitor and control project budgets, ensuring alignment with original estimates.
- Update cost estimates as project scopes evolve or change orders occur.
- Resolve budget discrepancies with project managers
- Provide ongoing analysis to identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or timelines.
General Duties:
- Build relationships with vendors and subcontractors to secure the best pricing, verify accuracy of all quotes and negotiate pricing to ensure competitiveness and value for clients.
- Ensure estimates comply with codes, regulations, and company standards.
- Work with all departments to ensure smooth project transitions from estimating to execution.
Education, Experience, and Skills Required:
- 5+ years of estimating experience
- 5+ years of residential construction experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Tech-savvy including a knowledge of Project Management software (i.e. Builder Trend or similar)
- Understanding of architectural drawings and construction documents
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
Compensation and Benefits:
- $85,000 - $95,000 annual salary (depending on experience)
- Bonus based on performance
