News reporter based in Huntsville, Alabama

The base salary range is $42,000 to $48,000 per year.
The reporter will be responsible for:
+ Daily, audience-focused reporting on Huntsville, Alabama, the state’s largest city and a technology, aerospace and manufacturing center
+ Coverage of topics Huntsville cares about: government accountability, population growth and change, public safety, business, transportation infrastructure and the aspirations and challenges inherent in a fast-growing metro like Huntsville
+ Using metrics to inform content choices and better understand reader interests
+ Experimenting with story topics and styles in an effort to better serve the audience
+ Seeking out and engaging with a variety of sources to fully represent the people in our communities
We are looking for a competitive self-starter who wants to deliver content readers want and need, information they can’t find anywhere else, information that makes an impact.
Minimum requirements
You should apply if you have:
+ A degree in journalism or communications or equivalent education in another field with relevant skills
+ A minimum of three years of journalism experience with a proven ability to write engaging copy that’s clear and accurate.
+ The ability to present information clearly and quickly and to frame information with reader impact in mind
+ A willingness to relocate to the Huntsville, Alabama, metro area
+ The ability to plan, work independently and prioritize tasks
+ The ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects
+ The ability to work collaboratively within and across teams
+ A focus on finding news readers need to know or want to know
+ Flexibility to adjust to changes – in technology, procedure and process
+ The determination to keep learning on the job and to keep getting better in the job
+ This job requires reliable transportation to meet with sources or cover events.
Additional desired characteristics include:
+ A working knowledge of AP style
+ Facility analyzing data and procuring public records
+ Experience working with video and social media
