Job Details
Responsibilities
- Performs assessments on patients
- Educates patients and their families about chemotherapy side effects
- Mixes and administers chemotherapy, hydration, and other medications under the direct supervision of a physician
- Encourages new chemo patients and families to utilize the See Your Chart Portal
- Demonstrates knowledge of ambulatory infusion pump use and maintenance
- Participates in activities to plan, measure, assess, and improve the quality of patient care
- Draws blood via port catheter or PICC line
- Schedules chemotherapy, hydration, injections, and bone marrows in the EMR
- Follows company process for billing verification before administering any medications
- Monitors Coumadin levels and provides patient education
- Maintains skills, knowledge, and currency in the administration of chemotherapy
- Attends meetings for continuing education to maintain currency of nursing license
- Assists the Charge Nurse with daily operations
Key Competencies
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to assess nursing needs of acute and chronically ill patients through technological methods
- Demonstrates exceptional assessment, critical thinking, and customer service skills
- Ability to maintain emotional stability to cope with human suffering, emergencies, and other stresses
- Ability to seek out resources independently and work collaboratively
- Ability to communicate clearly with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, physicians, administrators, leadership, and others
Qualifications
- Current California RN license
- Chemotherapy/Biotherapy certification through ONS or must obtain within (12) months of hire
- Current CPR/BCLS certification
- Excellent IV skills
- Access port-a-caths and PICC lines
- Medical terminology, oncology/hematology specific
- Previous oncology/hematology experience preferred
