Description/Job Summary
BGMU is accepting internal and external applications for the position of Utility Crewperson in the Water/Wastewater Division through Monday, June 30, 2024. The full-time position will be scheduled to work Monday through Friday from 7:30a to 4:30p, with a rotating on-call requirement. The objective of this position is to perform a variety of general labor tasks related to the installation, maintenance, and repair of water and sewer lines. The job is classified as "Heavy" due to the physical requirements, and the candidate must successfully pass BGMU's physical demands testing. The essential duties of this position are as follows:
Performs manual labor duties related to the installation, maintenance and repair of water lines and/or wastewater lines.
Performs general maintenance on fire hydrants and meters, as assigned.
Maintains logs and records.
Additional work and/or training outside normal work hours may be required.
Other Skills and Qualifications: This individual must have the ability to operate tools and equipment used in the maintenance of water and sewer systems. Equipment used includes a company vehicle, air compressor, tamper, hand and power tools and sewer rodder. The work requires significant physical effort to perform manual labor tasks to turn valves, to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs. unassisted, and to occasionally lift and carry heavier items with assistance of other workers or with lifting devices. Work is performed under prevailing weather conditions as required for the maintenance and upkeep of utility infrastructure. The work environment requires the individual to follow prescribed safety practices and to use safety equipment.
Required Qualifications
- A high school diploma or graduate equivalency.
- Ability to obtain a Class A CDL with Tanker Endorsement and a Medical Examiners Certificate through in-house training.
- Must successfully pass BGMU's physical demands testing.
- Warren County, KY residency is required within six (6) months of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Possession of Class A CDL with Tanker Endorsement and a Medical Examiners Certificate.
- Ability to obtain respiratory clearance.
- Backhoe experience and/or prior experience working outdoors in construction or landscaping.
