The Regional Sales Manager serves as the primary source of contact and communications with current and prospective customers, acting as the face of the customer for USS and effectively managing the customers’ needs and expectations. Will work closely with both multi-national and small to medium-sized customers to develop and sustain strong relationships and to execute account plans aimed toward increasing volume and margin. Strong engagement with the Customer Experience and Customer Quality Engineering teams as well as other key marketing, planning, and operating functions will be required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and execute account management plans within the assigned territory/customer portfolio to drive volume and margin growth. Effectively identify and implement solutions that are aligned with the needs of the customer.
- Successfully develop and sustain strong relationships with the key customer stakeholders (corporate and plant level) and maintain relations deep within all the appropriate customer functional areas. Manage periodic customer meetings/visits as part of the account planning/customer relationship responsibility.
- Negotiate win-win pricing / contractual commitments with customers on a monthly, quarterly, or annual basis. Throughout the contract timeline, ensure that all terms are within the contract parameters, including inventory management, receivables, accruals, etc.
- Elevated sense of urgency to efficiently respond to customer needs. Effectively communicate and solicit the appropriate internal resources to aid customer communications.
- On-going interface with our technical quality and innovation teams to drive new opportunities and solve problematic technical situations at both existing and prospective customers.
- Actively manage the account base to internally communicate reliable customer forecasts (short & long-term) and monthly shipping demands.
- Creating and managing sales business plans for sales activities.
- Pursue and collect current market conditions/trends and competitive intelligence criteria to support USS’ account planning and marketing efforts.
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing, supply chain management or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated success in technical sales and/or customer service with an industrial B-2-B channel, with B-2C experience also considered.
- Experience handling major national account customers, effectively managing both the c-suite as well as plant levels or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience must demonstrate a passion toward winning in a sales role, proven critical thinking skills and navigating within various sales’ situations, proven track record in cultivating and sustaining strong customer relationships and a high sense of urgency.
- Knowledge in sales forecasting and financial reporting business acumen.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, adept at navigating and resolving conflicts at all levels of the organization, both internally and externally.
- Proficient in delivering impactful presentations.
- Ability to adapt to changing market conditions and business environments.
- Ability to use and navigate common business software packages including Excel as well as proprietary sales and marketing platforms.
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% within North America
- Knowledge of steel manufacturing (and grades) and/or metals packaging is preferred.
