Title: Area Manager
Reports To: Regional VP
Direct Reports: Superintendents, Area Admins, Specialty Craft (Mechanics, Welders, Drivers)
Reporting directly to the Regional Vice President, this role is the key leader/ manager of all
operations and administrative functions for the geographic area. This role may have multiple
direct reports including operations, sales and administrative functions. While this role required
operational expertise, the role is strongly weighted on business management functions.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage the execution of all operations in an Area in accordance with annual budgeted
revenue and profitability metrics.
Oversee the assignment/ dispatch of crews and equipment for maintenance and
projects within the area.
Manage the timely and accurate reporting of Area specific administrative functions
(employee time, AR/AP, Billing, HR, etc). Manage local admin team as required.
Participate in management meetings and planning sessions as needed (calls, video, in
person, etc)
Develop and manage Area budgets
Forecast equipment needs and develop CAPEX budget on an annual basis.
Manage all personnel in the Area. Work with Regional VP and HR to forecast personnel
growth needs, set headcount and conduct evaluations as required.
Collaborate with Regional VP and other area managers to allocate personnel and
equipment resources across the region and company
Set the tone for Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) standards in the Area. Work
with HSE Manager to implement and manage the program.
Responsible for compliance with all government and HSE standards within the Area.
Establish and manage Area maintenance plan for all assigned equipment (Vehicles, Rail
equipment, tools).
Oversee the maintenance of local facilities/ infrastructure
Other duties as may be required
SKILLS:
General knowledge of rail maintenance and construction operations
Capable of managing operations, personnel and processes alike
Proficient in all MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc)
Able to multi-task and meet strict operational and administrative deadlines
Must be able to deal with fluid environments. Highly flexible with ability to set and
adjust priorities as requirements change
