The RN Unit Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of nursing services within a long-term care facility. This position involves overseeing nursing staff, maintaining quality resident care, managing administrative tasks, and ensuring compliance with regulations.
Responsibilities
- Recruitment and Hiring:
- Recruit, interview, and hire qualified nursing staff, including Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs).
- Training and Supervision:
- Provide orientation and ongoing training to nursing staff.
- Supervise daily activities, ensuring adherence to policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Performance Evaluation:
- Conduct regular performance evaluations for nursing staff.
- Provide constructive feedback and address any performance issues.
- Staffing Levels:
- Maintain appropriate staffing levels to ensure quality care.
- Create and manage work schedules to cover all shifts.
- Resident Care:
- Oversee resident care to ensure high-quality standards.
- Participate in interdisciplinary care planning meetings.
- Conduct resident assessments and collaborate on individualized care plans.
- Documentation:
- Monitor and ensure proper documentation of resident care.
- Review charts, progress notes, and other records.
- Quality Assurance:
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
- Identify areas for improvement and implement necessary changes.
- Unit Operations:
- Manage day-to-day unit operations.
- Coordinate activities related to resident care, staffing, and supplies.
- Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate resident records and reports.
- Ensure compliance with record-keeping requirements.
- Inventory Management:
- Monitor inventory levels of medical supplies and equipment.
- Coordinate restocking and ordering as needed.
- Federal, State, and Local Regulations:
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.
- Stay informed about changes in regulations and update policies accordingly.
- Infection Control:
- Implement and maintain infection control protocols.
- Train staff on infection prevention measures.
- Incident Reporting:
- Oversee incident reporting and investigation processes.
- Address any incidents promptly and appropriately.
Clinical Oversight
Administrative Duties
Regulatory Compliance
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Current RN license in the state of practice.
- 3-5 years of long-term care nursing experience.
- Prior supervisory or management experience preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
