About the Job
PURPOSE: Acts as center’s resource for quality systems, clinical practice guidelines, specialty programs, regulations and enforcement, and clinical safe business practices. Responsible to assess the training needs of nursing staff and to develop, implement, evaluation and document staff development programs including General Orientation, Job Specific Orientation, In-Service, and Continuing Education Programs for nursing department personnel. Functions within the scope of the state’s Nurse Practice Act for R.N. licensure. A registered licensed nurse designated to act as the coordinator of an infection prevention and control program to oversee the general application of the infection control guidelines.
- Oversees implementation of the orientation plan for nursing staff and contractors
- Participates in general orientation
- Acts as preceptor, coach and resource person to assist nursing department employees to successfully complete orientation
- Oversees documentation of orientation of nursing staff including skill validation using Skills and Techniques evaluations
- Coordinates and assists with annual skills training/validation of nursing staff
- Oversees nursing assistant education including teaching/managing CNA classes; ensures in-service content meets regulatory requirement and individual needs
- Maintains records of in-service trainings conducted including content, attendance and facilitates transfer of information to facility record-keeping system
- Monitors completion status of mandatory in-service trainings; assists nursing employees in understanding their responsibilities and accessing required training
- Collaborates with leadership and assists in planning, coordinating and conducting training related to federal, state, local and company requirements
- Coordinates demonstrations and competency validation related to new equipment or procedures
- Serves as facility liaison to approved student affiliations – provides orientation of students to facility and clinical processes; communicates with instructor regarding student observations; validates students’ compliance with facility prerequisites
- Obtains and maintains current CPR certification; coordinates scheduling and conducts on-site CPR training
- Attends and participates in scheduled in-service training, educational classes and meetings to maintain current certification as applicable and as managed by regulatory agencies and company policies
- Participates in QAPI program using company approved tools
Infection Prevention Responsibilities
- Reports infection control trends through the use of an electronic surveillance system
- Reviews infection reports, analyzes data and makes recommendations to the Infection Control Committee or QAPI Committee and Antibiotic Stewardship Committee
- Assists in identification of infection control issues and conducts both process and outcome monitoring
- Coordinates and monitors monthly departmental infection control rounds processes
- Collects, analyzes and provides infection information on in-house infections to nursing staff and other healthcare practitioners
- Coordinates outbreak investigations with the director of nursing and medical director
- Assists with required COVID infection tracking /reporting and vaccine tracking/reporting
- Coordinates annual influenza prevention campaign for patients and employees
- Provides monthly, quarterly and annual reports for the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement Committee
- Prepares recommendations for changes in center practice to the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement Committee
- Co-chairs the Antibiotic Stewardship Committee
- Partners with the facility medical director, director of nursing and consultant pharmacist to implement and maintain an antimicrobial stewardship program to ensure appropriate antibiotic utilization
- Collaborates with human resources manager on exposure control plan including annual safety sharps evaluation, tracking hepatitis vaccination and post-exposure evaluation and follow-up
- Collaborates with human resource manager in tracking employee illness in every department
- Makes recommendations for work restrictions based on CDC Recommendations for Work Restrictions and collaborates with Medical Director and human resources to instruct employees on when they can return to work after experiencing a communicable disease
- Collaborates with human resources on review and implementation of facility respiratory protection program including annual review
- Coordinates efforts to ensure employees designated to use N95 respirators have been medically evaluated and fit tested
- Coordinates completion of ongoing immunization tracking activities and implementing measures to improve compliance, including influenza, pneumococcal and tuberculosis
- Conducts facility Annual TB Risk Assessment based on CDC TB Risk Assessment and reports findings to Infection Control Committee and, or QAPI Committee
- Assists in educating newly hired center staff on infection prevention and control techniques including hand hygiene, blood borne pathogens, exposure control, PPE utilization and sharps handling
- Ensures healthcare personnel receive infection prevention and control training and other mandatory education related to infection prevention and control on an annual basis and as indicated
Qualifications:
Licensed RN in the State of Florida
Education, training, experience or certificaiton in infection control and prevention.
