Job DescriptionOur Quality Engineer is a critical contributor to ensuring quality products are provided to customers at all levels. This position will facilitate the creation of documentation from the product development team to the production team and will report directly to the Quality Manager.
ResponsibilitiesHere are some examples of the actual work your day would include.
- Support the launch of new products by developing documentation and specifications for the production team based on designs from the product development team
- Create APQP documentation for new products
- Establish SPC specifications for new products and analyze current product SPC data for improvements to processes
- Perform process audits to ensure adherence to quality management systems (QMS) and identify areas for improvement
- Create process checklists and coordinate quality inspections with departmental managers
- Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation plans to address potential quality and safety issues in the manufacturing process and work with departmental managers to improve overall company safety and product quality
- Investigate, communicate, and resolve customer feedback related to product quality, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence
- Work within a cross-functional team to brainstorm ideas and implement solutions to identified problems
- Work with suppliers to ensure the quality of incoming materials and components, including performing supplier audits and assessments
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date quality documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and quality records
- Ensure that all inspection and testing equipment is calibrated and maintained according to established schedules and standards
- Work collaboratively to improve product quality by making recommended changes (continuous improvement)
- Maintain a safe work environment while providing quality, detailed work
- Collaborate with stakeholders to implement organizational changes with employee buy-in
To be successful in this role, you need to have a certain amount of knowledge and skills:
- Minimum of 5 years quality experience preferred
- Proven history of understanding and executing industry safety standards and quality expectations
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of handheld measuring devices (calipers, micrometers and indicators)
- Six Sigma yellow belt a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) experience
- CAD software design experience preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, and Word specifically
The Quality Engineer position requires proficiency in typing, the ability to sit at a desk, and the capacity to focus on a computer screen. This position requires manual dexterity for working with small components, ability to complete repetitive motions for long periods of time, bending, continual lifting, lowering and carrying packages that typically weigh 25 - 50 lbs., and managing packages up to 150 lbs, as well as standing/stooping for long periods of time.
The candidate should be adept at collaboration and prepared for daily interaction with engineers and other departments (purchasing, production, customer service, etc.). Organization, follow-up, and communication skills are essential factors in the daily administration of this position.
We need a self-motivated Quality Engineer that has a desire to become an expert while creating procedures with precision and quality. You'll need the ability to learn quickly through training and work independently in a fast-paced environment. This person should continually add value to the organization beyond their day-to-day tasks.
AvailabilityThis onsite position is located at 15425 Chet's Way, Armada, MI, 48005. You must be available to work 40-50 hours per week between the hours of 6:00 am - 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
