The City of Fraser is accepting applications for the position of Public Safety Officer beginning November 18, 2024. GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS
The applicant must:
- Be a resident of the State of Michigan for a period of one year at the time of application.
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Have no felony convictions
- Have a valid Michigan driver's license
- Possess good moral character
- If required, must be able to pass the firefighters agility test
- Be MCOLES licensed; or attending a current police academy; or have obtained all necessary requirements to be admitted to a police academy
- If not licensed or in a current academy, have passed the MCOLES pre-employment standards tests.
- Be eligible to be certified as a firefighter l and ll. Certification is preferred but not mandatory.
- Meet all minimum standards as mandated by the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards, the Michigan Firefighters Training Council, and the Fraser Civil Service Commission.

Starting Pay:
- Annual - $62,747
- Bi-Weekly - $2,413.35
- Hourly - $28.73
Contractual Benefit Time:
- Furlough Days - 40 hours earned each 6 months (Awarded January 1 and July 1)
- Personal Days - 40 hours awarded each July 1
- Sick Days - Earned 8 hours a calendar month
- Paid Holidays - 13 days per year (104 hours)
- Employees working road patrol eligible for double pay those days enumerated
- Compensatory Days - Option to take overtime
Health Care:
- High deductible plan (Health Savings Account (HSA))
- Able to put into HSA, tax free
- Can use benefit time once accrued
- Delta Dental with $1,500 orthodontia coverage
Defined Benefit Retirement:
- 5% for first 10 years
- 0% for remaining years of employment
- Must work until 55 to be eligible to collect
- The city will match up to $2600.00 to a 457
Longevity
- Earned after fifth year
Clothing/Cleaning Allowance
- $1,350 combined; paid last pay in June
Retiree Health Care:
- No retiree health care
- City and employee each put $1,250/year into an ICMA account specifically for paying the employees retirement medical expense
