Our client is one of the top building and construction companies in the commercial real estate industry. They have multiple locations throughout the US and Canada. They specialize in the industrial, civil and special projects markets. They are seeking a Project Accountant to join their team!
Salary/Hourly Rate:
$65,000 – $90,000
Position Overview:
The Project Accountant will play a crucial role in the financial management and oversight of construction projects. This individual will work closely with project managers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance. The ideal Project Accountant candidate will have a strong background in construction accounting, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Responsibilities of the Project Accountant:
- Monitor and manage the financial aspects of assigned construction projects, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost control
- Prepare and review project budgets, ensuring accuracy and alignment with project goals
- Track and report on project financial performance, identifying variances and proposing corrective actions as needed
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date project accounting records, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for internal and external stakeholders
- Ensure compliance with company accounting policies and procedures, as well as relevant regulations and standards
- Serve as the primary financial liaison between project managers, subcontractors, and clients
- Provide financial guidance and support to project teams, helping them understand and manage project costs effectively
- Communicate financial information clearly and effectively to non-financial stakeholders
- Identify and mitigate financial risks associated with construction projects
- Ensure compliance with contractual terms, regulatory requirements, and company policies
- Assist with internal and external audits as needed
Qualifications for the Project Accountant:
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in construction accounting or a related field
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and project management
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, Oracle, PeopleSoft, Textura, Procore) and Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required
