Job Details
Key Responsibilities
- Job Costing: Manage all aspects of job costing, including budget setup, cost tracking, and variance analysis. Ensure accurate and timely job cost reports are provided to project managers and leadership.
- GL Reconciliation: Perform regular reconciliations of general ledger accounts, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of all financial transactions related to assigned projects.
- Credit Card Reconciliation: Oversee and perform monthly credit card reconciliations, ensuring all charges are properly coded to the correct projects and GL accounts.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Collaborate with project managers to develop project budgets and financial forecasts. Monitor budget performance and provide recommendations for cost-saving measures. Prepare detailed budget analyses to highlight trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
- Financial Reporting: Be open to learning and understanding how to create and analyze quarterly, and annual financial statements for assigned projects, including profit and loss, balance sheet, and cash flow statements.
- Accounts Payable & Receivable: Oversee AP/AR related to specific projects, ensuring timely billing and payment of subcontractors and suppliers. Handle progress billing and payment requisitions.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with financial regulations, company policies, and contract terms. This includes reviewing and approving contracts, change orders, and payment applications. Understand Conditional and Unconditional Lien Waivers
- Project Audits: Assist with internal and external audits related to job costs, contract compliance, and project performance.
- Change Management: Track and monitor contract change orders and their impact on project budgets. Provide financial insight into potential changes and risks.
- Liaison Role: Serve as a key point of contact between the accounting department, project management, and clients to address any financial or contractual issues.
- “A Jack of All Trades”: Joining a small company inherently means jumping in to certain tasks that aren’t specified. Be willing to help outside the boundaries of a typical accountant. Having a positive and ‘willing to help’ attitude goes a long way.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 2-5 years of accounting experience, with at least 1.5 years in construction accounting, ideally in commercial construction.
- Strong knowledge of job costing, GL reconciliation, credit card reconciliation, WIP (Work in Progress) schedules, and construction project accounting.
- Proficiency with construction accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel. (Understand basic pivot tables,
- Experience with aviation or healthcare construction projects is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with project managers, clients, and leadership.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred and Optional Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA or CMA certification.
- Familiarity with construction billing and progress payment requisitions.
