The basic function of the Production Manager is to manage and train the production staff, review work orders, schedule workflow and ensure efficient operation of the manufacturing production department.
Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Understand that the CUSTOMER IS OUR FIRST PRIORITY, and your job is to support that understanding.
- Be a leader. Team Performance and development are the key to success. The Production Manager needs to motivate the team members to excel. Positive energy, praise for a job well done and sharing a vision of the future must be communicated in every contact with an employee.
- Monitor the performance of the Production staff and provide additional training as necessary. Notify Operation Manager when persistent training, competency or discipline issues exist.
- Ensure that all safety, security, and company policies are followed. Ensure annual retraining is completed and during onboarding phase for all new employees.
- Review work orders and schedule workflow on the production floor. Workflow should be scheduled to maximize machine utilization.
- Effectively communicate the schedule, production goals and expectations to the operators involved. Monitor production results and follow up with the operator with the appropriate positive or negative feedback.
- Keep updated on products and product changes to assist in resolving manufacturing problems and maintaining production.
- Effectively communicate with Inventory Control, Engineering, and Fulfillment departments regarding any problems that may affect inventory, production, or manufacturing processes. Cooperate fully with other employees in every department to conduct business in an effective and efficient manner.
- Ensure that all equipment is properly maintained and running properly. The Production Manager is responsible for making sure that all regular maintenance on the machinery is performed and on schedule. Any instances of machines that are out of service or require repairs outside of regular maintenance will be reported to the Operations Manager immediately. All maintenance is to be recorded in the maintenance log.
- Maintain tooling and fixtures. Rework, repair or manufacture as required.
- Maintain inventories of shop supplies and tools.
- All packslips and receiving documents are to be completed and submitted to Inventory Control on the same day the goods are delivered.
- Ensure that all outbound shipments are checked for accuracy and compliance. The Production Manager is responsible for making sure that outbound shipments are shipped on time. Follow up with Inventory Control if any issues with packslips or shipping documents arise.
- Monitor the condition of the building and notify the Operation Manager of any issues.
- The Production Manager is responsible for keeping the factory clean and organized.
- Attend staff meetings as required
- Ensure safety training is complete and all safety responsibilities for site.
- Supervise daily labor to complete scheduled production requirements within budgetary guidelines.
- Participate in weekly staff meeting, supplies key production metric updates.
- Focus on continuing to improve the competitiveness of the operations.
- Lead Lean Manufacturing implementation and process improvement (Kaizen) activities at worksite.
- Lead, manage and develop plant employees to assure the necessary capabilities and culture is in place to maintain an effective operation. This includes establishing direction, gaining commitment, delegating, and building organizational capabilities.
- Interface with others in the organization to ensure customer deadlines are met.
- Recognize customer commitment and drive activity for continued quality improvement, as well as supporting procedure accountability.
- Ensure compliance to processes and procedures.
- Production objectives are met or exceeded. No parts shortages are to occur due to the actions or inaction of the Production Manager.
- Displays a positive attitude and maintains a cooperative working relationship with all customers, staff, management and employees.
- Production Team is energized and positively motivated.
- Scheduled maintenance of all machines is up to date and logged.
- Demonstrate good judgment in reporting important matters to the Production Manager as required.
- All paperwork and reports are completed in an accurate and timely manner.
- Factory is well organized and clean.
- Follow all company and departmental Operating Procedures and policies.
- Develop, recommend, and implement measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, production efficiency and quality of product.
- Participate in new product development meetings and support production requirements to make sample parts, complete trial runs, and launch products on time.
- Analyze and resolve work problems or assist workers in solving work problems.
- Maintain time and production records.
- All aspects of hiring and training of new staff.
- Manage routine Human Resource duties with the assistance of the HR Manager.
MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Directly manage Supervisors and Team Leaders as well as hourly employees in the Production Departments. Carry out responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Graduation (or equivalent), Secondary trade school or College degree Preferred: College degree in Manufacturing
- The ability to understand the needs of a manufacturing organization and business processes through conversational and personal interaction. This calls for an individual with a positive and goal-oriented attitude combined with general business and manufacturing aptitude and the ability to manage people.
- Above average verbal, mathematical and written skills. Must possess competent computer data entry skills. Must be competent at reading blueprints.
- The physical requirements are: functioning in a factory environment, general paperwork including work orders and data entry work. Some outside work and travel by car or airplane may be required. The body must perform basic twisting and standing movements, as well as bending and stretching. Hand movements require the ability to write and operate a computer keyboard. Must possess the full range of sight, hearing and full knowledge of the English language. Must possess the ability to lift heavy loads (70 Lbs.+) from time to time.
- The Production Manager must develop a basic knowledge of the market, competition and the industry in general.
