Production Artist - Allegiance Group

About the Job
Description
The production artist is responsible for quality control, including reviewing and finalizing direct mail print designs for production execution; and must be able to meet tight deadlines and work well under pressure. Excellent computer skills are essential. Knowledge of relevant software applications is necessary, including InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator. Must be creative and can multitask on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. This includes, but is not limited to, data entry and typesetting, image manipulation, art modification.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with art directors, graphic designers, account managers and production managers
- QC and prepare final files to meet supplied specifications for various print formats
- Create PDFs for creative and client review as well as print-ready PDFs
- Assist in creating multiple versions from base file
- Retouch, Color-correct, and adjust image files
- Collect and store final artwork for potential use in future campaigns
- Work to ensure brand standards and guidelines are upheld
- Maintain accuracy in page building and error-free documents
- Make corrections and modifications to design files as requested
- Assist in finding efficiencies for the department
- Stay current on graphic trends through continued education, trade shows, seminars, special courses, etc.
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
The ideal candidate will have:
- Knowledge of creating and working with InDesign layers, templates and style sheets, including page formatting of copy, placing photos and artwork, as well as producing multiple versions
- Proficiency in all Mac-based, industry-standard software programs including, but not limited to: Adobe Creative Suite
- Experience with data-driven page production
- Knowledge of all steps required for the print process and an understanding of production methods to ensure designs can be produced for print delivery
- Network, Internet, Email communication systems
- General understanding and knowledge of e-marketing vehicles and specifications
- General advertising, marketing and media terminology and processes
- Ability to speak, read, and write in the English language
- Keen attention to detail
- Strong typesetting, layout, photo editing, and color editing skills
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Ability to work under tight deadlines
- Excellent communication skills
Education and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or related field
- Experienced Mac Operator
- Appropriate education and/or experience may be substituted on an equivalent basis
- Some production experience helpful
Preferred qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience
- 1-2 years Print/Prepress experience – Reviewing files for consistency, color management, and mechanics; packaging files for release based on print specifications
- Graphic design knowledge
- Knack for design and art
- Team player
