About the Job
PURIS is seeking a skilled Process Engineer to join our team and lead the way in producing high quality, USA-made plant proteins. As a key member of our Engineering Team, you will use your in-depth technical and process knowledge of our pea protein, starch, and fiber manufacturing processes to optimize process capabilities, implement and monitor critical process control variables on new and current capital investments. You will also drive progress within new and existing processes increase capacity, improve product quality, reduce costs, bring new products to market, and ensure food and people safety.
In this role, you will work cross functionally with all departments while supporting all SQF, GMP, and product safety guidelines and procedures. Our Process Engineers play a leading role with the Management Team in the development and implementation of the PURIS Continuous Improvement Program.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify, develop, and manage improvement projects specifically aimed at improving operational efficiencies (waste, productivity, costs).
- Work closely with with Plant Technicians, Managers, and fellow Engineers on improving standard operating conditions. This includes the ongoing development, refinement, and training of best practice methods and procedures.
- Troubleshoot daily production and process problems. Communicate with Managers, Plant Technicians, and fellow Engineers regarding run problems, root cause investigations, and recommended solutions and implemented corrective actions.
- Manage Projects from conception, through design and execution/construction.
- Work in conjunction with manufacturing and outside resources to ensure consistent operation of equipment to prescribed conditions. Identify any/all of the following: set-up and run parameters, maintenance intervals, and/or material specifications.
- Develop project justifications, ROI analysis, and proper project/capital requests.
- Take responsibility for the development and maintenance of the entire process mass and energy balances of the wet processes for all new and existing process projects until turned over to the Operations Team Control.
- Ensure compliance with SQF, GMP, and product safety guidelines and procedures, promoting a culture of quality throughout the organization. Conduct regular quality checks and audits, promptly reporting and addressing any discrepancies.
- B.S. in Chemical, Mechanical, Environmental, Bio Products and Bio Systems Engineering
- 2+ years of environmental compliance experience
- Knowledge of Separations Technology, Heat Transfer and Mechanical/Chemistry
- Excellent communication skills and ability to present ideas and results to groups of team members.
- Strong analytical and investigative skills, and a strong sense of integrity and goal setting.
- Experience in the Food or Chemical Industry a plus
- Experience in Lean concepts, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement tools is a plus.
- Ability to lead and integrate people and food safety into manufacturing activities
- Must be capable of working at elevated heights, lift up to 50 lbs, and adapt to temperature and environmental extremes from hot to cold, noise, dust, dirt, and chemicals.
