Printed Circuit Design, Manufacturing Engineer
Contract 40 hours weekly, M-F 25% Onsite with additional, if needed by the Program.
US Citizen, Ideally with an Active Secret Clearance, Candidate MUST be clearable.
Applicants lacking formal educational credentials but with commensurate technical skills may apply. Candidates holding a Secret security clearance preferred. Ability to obtain a government security clearance is required for this position.
Massachusetts area preferred but this position does have the option of remote work, with 25% onsite Requires occasional periodic travel to US-based PWB suppliers and procuring activity site(s).
Our client is seeking a Printed Circuit Design for Manufacturability Engineer to support the design, specification, quality evaluation, and source management for printed circuit board procurement supporting applications in Space, Defense, and Bioelectronics.
The Printed Circuit Design for Manufacturability Engineer reports to the Group Leader for Electronic CAD (ECAD). This position must work closely and collaboratively with Electrical, Mechanical and Quality engineers throughout the organization, as well as with colleagues within ECAD.
The positions primary objective is to serve as a technologist and a subject matter expert resource for Engineering when specifying and procuring printed circuit boards. The position requires a person who can identify/cultivate relationships with suitable fabrication sources, and who is able to match project design needs with fabricator capabilities.
Responsibilities
Support Printed Circuit Design For Manufacturability effort in a fast paced, multi-project environment utilizing a wide range of technical solutions. Define design rules and guidelines for various PWB product types. Provide technical guidance and support on materials, finishes, construction and quality to electrical and mechanical design engineers, assembly operations, and board designers. Ensure printed circuit designs meet performance, manufacturability and project requirements. Participate as subject matter expert in Circuit Card Assembly (CCA) level Material Review Board and failure investigations, as they relate to PWB as potential root cause
Represent Client (as customer) to oversee multi-year PWB procurement contracts at 2nd tier procuring supplier. Including managing priorities and dispositioning technical anomalies discovered during procurers incoming inspection.
Select and manage a core base of board suppliers to meet the technology, delivery and pricing needs of projects. Identify and cultivate new suppliers, as required, to meet new project/technology requirements. Perform audits of current and potential suppliers. Establish and manage non-disclosure agreements with suppliers. Serve as the point of contact for established non-disclosure agreements by maintaining records of the technical data exchanged and ensuring data is handled appropriately.
Coordinate review and procurement activities with Design Engineering, ECAD, Purchasing agents and PWB suppliers. Obtain quotes, initiate procurement, track sourcing of PWBs through procurement, inspection, and delivery to assembly operations. Resolve fabrication issues with suppliers. Ensure designs can meet specified IPC quality standards. Ensure documentation complies with applicable Export regulations. Collect feedback from assembly operations and inform designers of best practices to improve assembly quality and reduce rework.
Candidate should be familiar with PWB manufacturing techniques including materials, finishes, stack up generation, impedance analysis, and quality standards.
Familiarity with Polar Speedstack, Downstream CAM350, Mentor Graphics Expedition design flow desirable. Individual must be a self-starter and have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be well organized and able to manage multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced environment. .
Qualifications BS in electrical, electro-mechanical, chemical or mechanical engineering preferred with an interest in materials and manufacturing.
10 years of circuit board manufacturing experience desirable.
