Department Overview

The Infrastructure Engineering team is responsible for the development and operations of critical infrastructure and platform services, in support of Motorola Solutions' public and hybrid cloud-based Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions for public safety customers. This team is part of Motorola Solutions' Video & Software division, which offers secure, reliable and efficient team communications, workflow and operational intelligence solutions for mission critical public safety and enterprise markets throughout the world.

Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Solution Architect to join our Platform Engineering organization. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in designing, implementing, and optimizing container orchestration solutions using Red Hat OpenShift. You will play a critical role in driving the adoption of OpenShift across our enterprise, ensuring high availability, scalability, and security of our application infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

1. Lead the design and architecture of the OpenShift platform to meet the business requirements and technical standards of the company.
2. Collaborate with development teams to facilitate the adoption of container-based development and deployment practices.
3. Implement automated solutions for continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
4. Ensure the reliability, availability, and performance of applications running on OpenShift.
5. Develop and maintain OpenShift templates, operators, and custom resources to streamline the deployment of services.
6. Define and implement security policies and procedures for the OpenShift environment.
7. Provide guidance and mentorship to team members on OpenShift best practices and emerging technologies.
8. Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues within the platform.
9. Stay updated with the latest releases and features, and plan upgrade paths for the platform.
10. Document architectural decisions, design patterns, and operational manuals for the OpenShift environment.
11. Work with vendors and third parties to assess new technologies and tools that can enhance the platform's capabilities.

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field with over 8 years of experience, including a minimum of 4 years as an architect or senior engineer specializing in Red Hat OpenShift.
2. Extensive experience with Red Hat OpenShift and containerization technologies such as Docker.
3. Strong knowledge of Kubernetes and its ecosystem.
4. Proficient in scripting languages such as Shell, Python, or Perl.
5. Experience with automation and configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, Chef).
6. Solid understanding of CI/CD methodologies and tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI).
7. Familiarity with Linux/Unix administration and troubleshooting.
8. Knowledge of networking, storage, and security fundamentals as they relate to OpenShift and containerized environments.
9. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
10. Relevant certifications such as Red Hat Certified Architect (RHCA) in OpenShift are highly desirable.
